  1. I am about to get a company car... and as much as I love this one... i have a celica project in the garage... and also a ke35 club car... i can't really justify having so many cars nor pay attention to them all in the way they deserve! I am in no hurry to sell this one though.. so it might be around for a while yet :(
  2. if it wasnt for mates who else would drink your beer hehehe
  3. Cool. Based on that I will stick with the 4k.. i want to sell it and want it all legit with rego so this is the best option. Plus the extra 10 nm of torque on top of the 60 it already had will make it a rocketship lol.
  4. Not sure really.. I honestly didn't want the expense of acquiring a 5k so asked the question, he told me he didn't think it would be real good, and I left it at that. If i was to guess it might have to do with 5k's being torque-y lower revving units than the earlier models.. and therefore not being all that happy having the ring revved out of them at freeway speeds which is what happens with the two speed auto... might also just be that the extra torque is starting to be too much for the stock toyoglide? i can't imagine its a real strong gearbox... but its all assumption on my part.
  5. An in Hughesdale and it will be a project for all day Saturday I suspect. Reality is I have a dozen bolts to undo and then she should come straight out.. swap the gearbox over and a few other bits and pieces and I should be away... so I don't actually think I need a hand... could be famous last words though :(
  6. Talked to him about a 5K but he felt it would not be a nice thing with the 2 speed Toyoglide. I have acquired a 4K for it that has done minimal km's that will do nicely. Plan on slotting that in on Saturday. Then it can go back up for sale.
  7. I need to pay more attention to the Melbourne section don't I! Shame I missed this :( If anyone wants to do a redux and help me install my 4K this Saturday feel free to come along ;)
  8. Thanks for that.. I still have no idea what you are asking Smeetsy :(
  9. This would be an early head I am tipping. My "K" engine out of my KE10 does not have that fitting on the back of the head either. The 4K I am about to drop in my car does have this plate and i have to cover it up. Can't tell you what that means for the head though - maybe its the elusive big valve jobby?
  10. Not sure what you are after Smeetsy.. the wheels in the photos are the wheels I bought it with... and the only ones I have. Have considered putting original steelies and hubbies on it... might do that when the right set pops up.
  11. Update time.. Car was/is up for sale. Funny how putting a for sale sign in the window brings on problems! On Sunday I managed to have terminal engine failure. Lots of oil smoke.. lots of clanging.. and ultimately the K engine cried enough and seized after i had pulled over on the side of the freeway. Have acquired a low km 4K engine to slip into her. Hopefully things go smoothly and this makes the car a better daily driver! Will take some photos of the in and out. Might have to keep her now... decisions decisions...
  12. For what its worth I think that is a pretty good price to do a rust repair around a boot opening.. this is of course without seein how much there is.
  13. Update time.. painting is still on hold.. nearly ready to bite the bullet and pay someone to do it. In the mean time I have done a few bits and pieces. First job was to give the seat rails some attention. The previous owner didnt have a nut on all 4 mounting bolts as the stud came through too close to the seat slider. Gave that some relief with the trusty Ozito knock off Dremel tool, gave her a coat of jam and its good as gold. Once it was all back together I bolted it in the car, and then fitted my new ERG 6 point harness with 3 inch belts. Red to go with the new paint scheme... if it ever comes! Also have been on the acquisition path... I bought this corona brake upgrade package from Bigworm on toymods a while ago... Which means I will need 14 inch wheels (shame as I do love the jelly beans!).. so I bought these off Gilly on the AE86 Driving Club forum... hopefully they arrive this week...I think they will suit the theme of the car well... probably will take them to a wheel place and get them polished and painted etc... Which means I am now after some 14 inch race tyres.. which I am working on at the moment. I probably will run it with the 13" wheels and tyres and stock brakes for its first run or two.. and then upgrade when I am looking for a bit more in the car rather than me! Thats all :lolcry:
  14. damn you young blokes not caring for gifts from the gods heheheh... looks awesome - love to see some now shots... paint can be fixed easily enough :bash:
  15. can confirm my ke10 with its original k motor is pale green
  16. Sadly my painter can't get on to the old girl this weekend.. so we are aiming for later in the week. Fingers crossed! A good friend has created the livery for me.. I love it!
  17. Reckon you are better off posting your question in the tech section rather than the vic specific one. you might get more of a response.
  18. Most radiators have a tap at the bottom. Have a look for that. Once you have found it, undo that and the radiator cap and that will drain the majority of the coolant in your system. Close or screw the tap back in, fill it up with coolant.. make sure the system is well bled. Bobs your uncle. Can also undo the bottom radiator hose if you can't find the tap in the radiator. If you want to flush it out, you can run the hose through the top of the radiator.. and also the top hose if you are really keen, but I wouldnt think this is too necessary unless the car has been poorly maintained. If you are still not sure, go out and get yourself a gregorys manual on your car, it will talk you through it step by step.
  19. You know I think the police / rego authorities can provide you with a new chassis number if you can prove you acquired the car legitimately. I don't know how they tell if its an aussie car or a import in that scenario though.
  20. Without knowing the car, its definitely worth doing a full coolant change once every year or two, depending on mileage. Modern Toyotas do have a very specific coolant requirement - you can buy genuine stuff (I think its red) or an after market equivalent (also usually red), but definitely make sure that it says it is Toyota specific.
  21. Thanks for that.. don't know why my ebay searches never showed those up!
  22. I am a member of the TCCA - club doesnt appear to be very strong currently which is a bit sad, but I am one of a few who turns up to each meeting. Only joined two months ago. 78_7kRolla - car has always been a club car, not run in an ATCC event. It goes in to get painted this weekend so progress is good...
  23. Thanks for the ideas guys. Bought the front one from autorubbers.com.au for $110. don't think you can do much better than that. Rare Spares had same part number for about $140. Rear one is problematic.. rare spares / autorubbers didnt have any and said 2-3 months. So i went to Scotts Rubber. Nearly twice the price but in stock in around two weeks.
  24. Ahh the history eh  I didn't know that they ran as a team, though guessed there was an association based on the liveries and the photo. The boys on toymods were wondering where the Celica might have ended up.. any ideas?
  25. Finally get the old girl painted this weekend. Going in to have a quickie one day paint job on it.. going to be all white.. and then sign write some graphics/stripes etc later. Here is how it looks pre-paint. Windows getting popped out later in the week. Am on the hunt for a rear screen rubbber, found a well priced front one through autorubbers.com.au Looking forward to the "after" photos immensely!
