Haev you pulled the starter out? Before you spend money I would be whipping it out and seeing what you can find - it really sounds like the starter is cactus and its seized in the "start" position - ie the teeth on the starter are meshed with the teeth on your flywheel, is jammed up, and thats why you are getting locked wheels.
Pull your starter out and have a look. Then you will know what you are chasing.
can you bend up some ally tube to suit the bend you need and then just join either end with a small piece of straight hose that is available off the shelf?
Interesting.... its umm.. different! What are the advantages of doing it this way rather than replacing the strut with a good quality insert? I am thinking $$$ for you and???
Theoretically you should run your heater hose system the same way your old engine did it.
Your system is likely not to need this outlet so blanking it off is the way to go. That was the case with my K engine in my KE10.
Pull your radiator out and get it professionally flushed. Every old toyota I have owned has needed a reco'd radiator as they end up full of sludge, along with a water pump and thermostat.
A hose pushed up her just doesn't cut the mustard for getting the sludge out.
how many earth straps have you got ? the k motors i have seen have one going from the back of the block to the firewall.. and another one at the front going over to the inner guard. maybe this will help too? Sounds from your post you might have two as well, but I thought it was worth checking :D
All good points... but given now it will actually rev as opposed to previous engine I am sure it will be a better ride regardless. Still noisy no doubt.. but less of a struggle.
RA28 Toyota Celica built 1977.
Hard to find a good one unless you are prepared to spend good money but they are a great car. Often referred to as a mini Mustang... better to refer to the Mustang as a maxi Celica :D
4k is in and I am staggered at how much of a difference it has made to the car. Really driveable now and easily keeps up with the traffic. Amazing what compression and an increase in torque can do for a car!
Haven't been on the freeway yet but I suspect that it will be a much better thing there too.
Am now a bit torn as to what to do with it. It was for sale but I am thinking I might hang on to her. My company car is still 6 weeks away any way, so I guess I will see what transpires. Perhaps it can sit in the drive way for sunny Sunday drives - until I finish my other project - an ra23 celica. Its been a project for three years so the rolla might have a few years of sunday drives left in her yet!
Posted this in KE thread on toymods so apologies for anyone who gets it twice or three times lol
I have been spending the weekend extracting my seized K engine and slipping a 4k into my KE10.
After much swearing.. its in and hooked up... started thank kerist... needs some fiddling to keep it running... and need to go find a t-piece to fit in the heater hose bullshit farken mess to replace the one that is rusted out and then coolant can stay in the hoses ...
fingers crossed we are back on the road tomorrow!
if anyone wants a seized original K-series engine let me know
here are some pics from today
rare spares are expensive and quoted me two months delivery
that ebay search brought up a guy called phils rotaries in queensland who will do them for 100 each. i havent fitted them yet but they look to be deecent and definiteluy better than hard cracked stuff!
I am about to get a company car... and as much as I love this one... i have a celica project in the garage... and also a ke35 club car... i can't really justify having so many cars nor pay attention to them all in the way they deserve!
I am in no hurry to sell this one though.. so it might be around for a while yet :(
