  1. looks like a nice machine, i learnt to drive in one of these before i got my KP61 starlets. sorry this is a bit off topic but i'm going to be moving to australia early next year and am of course already thinking about what car to get, went to have a look around at what's for sale over there but i can't find any decent online trading sites, there doesn't seem to be any site that has the monopoly like www.trademe.co.nz does over here, which works so well. where do you guys buy your cars from? surely not the old way of looking in the newspapers? i'd have to buy every newspaper in australia every week. there's got to be a better way yeah?
  2. i'm Russell from Rotorua, i'm KP60_rally on the club-k forums.
  3. yes definately, i thought that was the official way to do it. isn't it?
  4. i weighed my starlet and it came to only 800kg with about a quarter of a tank of gas i think it was. according to the manual it was meant to be a fair bit heavier, and that's with the 3k. mine's had a 4k put in it. i have to wonder how accurate some of the weigh bridges are sometimes, especially after i weighed my mums 800cc subaru ace and it came to only 650kg.
  5. hey just thought i'd let you know the 4k-c DOES have dished pistons, (or at least mine does) its from an automatic 1984 starlet incase that makes a difference. i bought it from the wreckers for $400 and i took the head off today only to find alot of rust and about 4 too many pistons that were dished. grr. oh well, 5k time.
  6. oops sorry for the double post.. my computer hates me and is trying to get me in trouble. and it's going to get a spanking after this. oh ok thanks. so will the 4k-c that the auto came from will have the dished pistons yes? so will the pistons in it be dished to make less compression? or dome pistons to make more?

  8. any idea what kind of compression i'll get if i put a 3k-b head on a 4k block that is from an auto? i'd hate to have gone and spent the money on a cam and 3k-b to fit my twin carbs then find i have 11.5:1 or 7.5:1 compression.
  9. hi, what year falcon seats are you using? and does anyone know if they will bolt into a 1982 kp starlet?
  10. why did they make the 5k's with hydraulic lifters in the 1st place? surely there must be some advantage over solid -anyone know what it is?
  11. lol yes, i meant the springs that went horizontally were replaced by the peices of tube. what were they for?
  12. what was the reason for having the springs there in the 1st place? and if you don't mind me asking how does setting the engine upright make it preform better and how much work needs to be done to make it upright?
  13. Hi, i'm looking at buying a 5k that i saw on trademe.co.nz to put into my KP61 starlet. it's got a dead 4k in it at the moment with a 4 speed. does anyone know if it's true you can't bolt it up to the 4k's gearbox? i was sure you could but i heard it wasn't that easy so i thought i'd double check. also is there a way to tell a 5k from 3 or 4k just by looking? and that's assuming it's not just written on the rocker cover or something. Thanks, hope someone that knows the answers will bother to reply.
