  1. i thought it looked a bit obscure? the top of the dash sticks out alot as well, from the dash on the car to the removable part....but I'm not too worried. as soon as i get the head off the future father dad in law is gona help me clean it up and whack the vrs kit in. looking forward to seeing thins thing running properly
  2. i checked with my mechanic that got the gasket kit for me, and he gave me the name of a bloke that skims the heads pretty cheap, so will be going to see him sometime this week. he also said just get some fairly decent oil and filter once the engine is back together, as whatever water is left in the motor will evaporate
  3. i will discuss that with my bro in law, as the 4k's are his. i think i might be able to persuade him :) unless i rebuild one of the 4k's while i drive the 3k into the ground, because i just want to get it registered asap. whats the best way to flush the engine once the new gasket is in? one of my mates use 50%oil and 50% transmission fluid, because the tranny fluid has a cleaning agent in it?
  4. well there seems to be a bit more oil than usual near the head gasket, so i assumed that it was the problem. got the pics uploaded so see if i can put them up now.
  5. ok guys pulled the tappet cover off this morning, and all over the inside was 'mayonnaise' as most call it, so there is definitely water in the motor. talked to my local mechanic, and he ordered a head gasket and vrs kit for 50 bucks which is pretty cheap i thought? it should be here either tomorrow or saturday morning. hopefully will be running like new by sunday! and don't worry i am taking a heap of pics today and will put them up tonight, including the residue under the tappet cover, for those who havent seen it before.
  6. well hopefully i get some time to myself so i can get a start on it. might just get a cheap battery to keep me going for now. i can't see water in the radiator, but it is damp, so it may just be low. and i can't see any mayonnaise in the oil cap. if i can take some pics i will show u and see what you reckon
  7. trust me i will definitely take some pics tomorrow. might get a chance to swap some stuff from my rolling one if its worth changing too. hope its just the battery. what are the usual symptoms of a blown head gasket?
  8. so this could turn out to be alot cheaper to fix than i originally though. well wont know the full details till i have a looksie tomorrow. i already have big plans for this thing, its got potential
  9. hey guys picked the car up this arvy! bloke couldnt remember what price he had quoted me, so i said it was 400-500 ish. so he said fair enough 450 sounds good, so 50 bucks cheaper than what we had originally thought! and also, i have a feeling that it might not even be a head gasket. the day it started playing up was a few weeks ago on monday, which was the coldest day of the year so far. i have a feeling that the battery may be cactus, because i turned the key, and it made that rapid ticking sound that I'm sure you have all heard. which usually means the battery doesnt have enough charge to turn the motor over?
  10. well it looks like i might be picking it up today! the only thing that isnt real great on it is the seats, which are the material type. i will just out seat covers on them though. roof lining, floor carpet, and boot carpet have all been replaced lately. and the dash only has 1 crack in it!
  11. hey guys. young bloke in town drives (well used to) a 1977 KE35 coupe, which blew a head gasket a few weeks back. i had been asking him about it for a while, and once the gasket blew he called me up and asked me if i wanted it. is $500 too much for it? its a manual running a 3k, paint is almost perfect, and from what i can gather the only spot of rust is just under the fuel cap. what does everyone think? also engine parts arent an issue if i need them, as i have 2 3k's and 2 4k's at my disposal.
  12. please delete post mods car is being swapped
  13. new or 2nd hand good nick sump would be fine id say. check the quality of the sump gasket while you are down there
  14. without moderators, rollaclub would cease to exist. keep the good work up guys! you work your asses off, and we all appreciate it.
  15. depending on the shape of the center of the wheel (whether its flat or curved, and if the stud holes are set in or open) we used to buy blank wheels and take them to a professional fabricator who drilled the stud patterns in for us....and also lined them up perfectly with the center bore. and it only cost us about 20 bucks a wheel. but not sure how many other places would do it.
  16. another option is to go to an automotive based shop that sells suspension parts. we have super cheap auto and repco as the main ones here. all you need to do really is look up the specs on the car and find out which shock absorbers are made for the car, and which ones you can get, depending on how far you want to go. but being a late model car, i think your best bet would be to take to a mechanic that specialises in suspension, as newer cars have a lot more bits and pieces that can go wrong when trying to do it DIY, depending on how skilled you are car wise.
  17. the matt black KE35 just reminds me of mad max :)
  18. not a real bargain, but a bargain none the less. brand new genuine leather momo steering wheel, brand new set of ngk platinum spark plugs and a boss kit for the wrx $200 bucks
  19. other people might think differently, but try photochop with a glossy white? not sure if it would suit the car colour, might just be me
  20. they are exactly the same as these
  21. ok wasnt expecting this much interest! i had a chat to my mate, and he imports them from somewhere in new zealand. and i can guarantee you they are light because i fit his tyres for him. you can literally pick the wheels up with one finger, and they look pretty genuine to me. he was going to lend one to me to try on my 35 coupe, so if he does i will take a pic and show you all. and $120 is including freight too
  22. hey guys just wondering if anyone knows what 13x7 superlites are worth? i have a mate of mine who races cortinas, and he said he can import some for me for 120 each. is that cheap, or average?
