Jason Posted November 2, 2006 Report Posted November 2, 2006 (edited) Ok I'm throwing up the idear if i get into a Engineering at uq of qut next year. ill have a 1year off. I'm really only basing this on the fact that ive herd that 1st year is basicly the same as year 12 (work load and hours per week) and if that the case f@$k that. because i want a break (n) does any body do an Engineering Course at either uni's? If i don't and have to do a science degree ill be happy beucze a freinds doing it and I'm helping him with the work lol so easy J Edited November 2, 2006 by Jason Quote
Hiro Protagonist Posted November 2, 2006 Report Posted November 2, 2006 I'm currently in my 5th year of a Mech Eng degree, started out with 4.5 years of a Mechatronics one buy it sucked too many balls, so I changed to Mechanical start of this semester. Not much better, but at least I never have to see another electrical subject again.... Quote
Jason Posted November 2, 2006 Author Report Posted November 2, 2006 lol I'm torn between mech and mechtronic :jamie: i don't mind eletrical stuff. What was in the corse? Quote
Jason Posted November 2, 2006 Author Report Posted November 2, 2006 lol I'm torn between mech and mechtronic :jamie: i don't mind eletrical stuff. What was in the corse? Becuse Ive wanted to do mecha tronics and robots and stuff so i though that would be the best, but when i think more about it mechanical makes more sence, becuse some of the uni guys just said that mechtronic is just basicly a 50/50 mech and eletrnoic. Hmm got to talk to some one at the uni some more i think Quote
irokin Posted November 2, 2006 Report Posted November 2, 2006 My brother was/is doing Mining engineering at UQ. I think hes thinking of changing courses though. From what I understand the first year is the same for everyone, then you split off into your chosen field. Quote
Corolla_Kid Posted November 2, 2006 Report Posted November 2, 2006 (edited) Yeah I'm doing it at the moment at UQ. first year sucks balls. You think yr 12 has a big workload, wait till you hit uni. First year has 2 general plans. 1 for mech/civil/structural/mining etc. and one for electrical/software etc. First year, ive done 3 maths subjects, 1 science, and 4 engineering type subjects. They say if you can get through first year, it gets easier. I'm not so sure lol. anyway good luck with it dude :jamie: If you want to know any more just add me to msn. Address is in my profile. Hiro Protagonist Posted November 2, 2006 Report Posted November 2, 2006 I was only the 3rd year or so to start Mechatronics at UNCLE, and the course was shithouse. Poorly planned, lots of irrelevant courses/exams/topics, treated like second-class citizens in some subjects (we often missed out on being taught essential stuff like Matlab until 4th year, and didn't do many prerequisites for courses). If the Mechatronics degree is properly integrated between the Mechanical and Electrical schools, then it's alright. Otherwise, it's just a nightmare. Probably safer doing a Mechanical degree and choosing electrical/electronic majors/electives if you want to dabble Quote
skiddz Posted November 5, 2006 Report Posted November 5, 2006 hey I'm doing engineering atm at uq, basically its f@$ked, all i can say is be prepared to work, be fukin good at maths, i was doing the first year mining plan but its essentially the same for everyone basically I'm finding the maths to be the real killer that, my lazyness and bens old celica. I'm changing to surveying at QUT if that doesnt work for me ill go back to the trade idea which was the initail plan but changed cos my parents are wankers :jamie: Quote
love ke70 Posted November 9, 2006 Report Posted November 9, 2006 (edited) just start ya trade now luke, its heaps more fun! i started eng. at UQ and lasted not even 2 weeks. its f@$ked in the head shit. lots of save the environment, and lots of funky assed equations that make no sense avoid uni at all costs ;) *edit* have you considered doing an engineering apprenticeship/tafe thingo. would be more down to earth and you would get payed :D Edited November 9, 2006 by love ke70 Quote
Paul Posted November 9, 2006 Report Posted November 9, 2006 I started an apprenticeship 5 weeks ago, working for a company that makes insulation for houses. What I do is help build the new machinery and maintain/service/fix the old. What I get out of it is a Certificate III in Engineering so tafe will cover the tech side of it (sorta like fitter and turner but not called that any longer). The best part of it all is that I am getting paid (quite well $15 hour, I'm lucky) to learn in a field that has a wide scope for further study etc... Well worth considering, I don't miss studying. Davros El Davros Posted November 10, 2006 Report Posted November 10, 2006 I did six months of Mechanical Engineering at Wollongong Uni. I wanted to get into engine/car design eventually, but decided that the course I was doing wasn't really all that creative and there was way too much maths and physics - I'm good at maths and physics, but I didnt want to be studying my ass off every 6 months to pass my exams. I ended up switching to Graphic Design and Multimeda, and now run my own graphic design agency...kinda wished I stuck with the Mech Eng though, cause they year that i studied with ended up designing a race car that won the World University Formula SAE title in Detroit a few years back...damn!
