Calam05 Posted February 18, 2007 Report Posted February 18, 2007 Hey everyone, my car soudns alright drivign around town and stuff, but at 100 on the highway i get a real loud noise, ive been told its wheel bearings, searchedo n ehre and heard wheel bearings or diff. it doesnt seem to fit a bad diff diagnosis. it does sound more like noise from the wheels rolling along, is it due to bad insulation of the cars not blocking out enough noise, or just sum stuffed wheel bearings. autobarn said 40bux a set for front and rear, would that be all id have to buy? or will i need seals and grease and stuff? I'm not to sure what a wheel bearing looks like. Quote
Xany Posted February 18, 2007 Report Posted February 18, 2007 If you're not sure what a wheel bearing looks like......its probably better you take it to a mechanic. To change the back ones over you will need to get the bearings pressed on anyway. Quote
Calam05 Posted February 18, 2007 Author Report Posted February 18, 2007 do they sit behind the brakes? i got no problems pulling htings off to take a look and learn a thing or two Quote
78_7kRolla Posted February 19, 2007 Report Posted February 19, 2007 the best way to tell is to take the wheels off and spin the rotors/drums. if one (or more) spin with more resistance than the other side then you know its a bearing. I recommend you take it to your mechanic, he could even diagnose the problem for you. Quote
Calam05 Posted February 19, 2007 Author Report Posted February 19, 2007 my mechanic is my uncle at goodyear, he will tell ME don't worry about it and to save the money and not waste it on this car. Quote
Raven Posted February 19, 2007 Report Posted February 19, 2007 Take it to another mechanic that isnt your uncle :lolcry: Quote
MI55KE Posted February 20, 2007 Report Posted February 20, 2007 Mine gets very noisy at top speed because of exhaust. But i did just recently get the bearing in the driver's side rear wheel fixed and replaced..mechanics charged me $140, don't know if that's any good or not, (being that i'm a female and i just wanted it fixed) because of hearing a "rolling" noise at low speeds. When i got the car back, the noise was still there, and we discovered it was coming from the other rear tyre. So we jacked it up ourselves, had a play round with the wheels, took them off, put them back on, tightened them up etc and it seemed to go away. Haven't had too many problems since. Don't know if that helps or not, good luck :lolcry: Cheers ~*CaRz!*~ Quote

However, after taking the wheel off to have a look under the rear end for some possibly loose suspension mounts (just in case they were the cause), I forgot to fully tighten up the wheel nuts again (all of them), and they slowly worked loose. Tightened them all up, and the noise went away completely. Quote
