ae71wagonater Posted July 8, 2007 Report Posted July 8, 2007 (edited) hey everyone, i am currently doing a 4age 20valve silvertop conversion to my AE71 cs station wagon. the car is currently away getting the AE71 wiring integrated with the AE101 wiring. i am trying to figure out what i should do about a tacho, weather i should get an ae71 tacho dash cluster, or just go with an aftermarket tacho. I am new to this so all help and suggestions greatly appreciated. heres some pics cheers Mark Edited July 8, 2007 by ae71wagonater Quote
smacko84 Posted July 8, 2007 Report Posted July 8, 2007 Hey mate, depends on the look your going for, if your doing custom interior then i'd go with a nice subtle aftermarket tacho otherwise try and find a original tacho dash. just my opinion. Quote
Medicine_Man Posted July 8, 2007 Report Posted July 8, 2007 Personally I'd go the Stock tacho cluster, Monster tachos just seem to attract the wrong sort of attention.. Nice looking car by the way.. Quote
Robert Posted July 8, 2007 Report Posted July 8, 2007 I would recommend the standard one. I have one for sale at the moment: http://www.rollaclub.com/board/index.php?s...mp;hl=AE71+TACH Cheers, Rob Quote
ae71wagonater Posted July 8, 2007 Author Report Posted July 8, 2007 i was kind of leaning towards an aftermarket tacho, merely because it seemed easier to wire up since they are universal and all. But i am all in favour of the original look. is it hard to rig up the AE71 tacho cluster with a 4age 20v?. cheers. Quote
7shades Posted July 8, 2007 Report Posted July 8, 2007 I'm led to believe you can wire the original tacho to work fine by finding the pulse wire and splicing it into the factory loom... Quote
Medicine_Man Posted July 8, 2007 Report Posted July 8, 2007 This info may help.. http://www.toymods.net/forums/showthread.php?t=3710 Failing that there is a place near where I work that fixes instrument clusters and should be able to modify it to suit.. http://www.ottoinstruments.com.au/index.htm Quote
ae71wagonater Posted July 8, 2007 Author Report Posted July 8, 2007 thanks for your usefull info and kind comments! i should get it back from kaizen garage this week, then i will post some update pics. Quote
Medicine_Man Posted July 8, 2007 Report Posted July 8, 2007 aah, that otto instruments is just up the road from there.. Quote
ae71wagonater Posted July 12, 2007 Author Report Posted July 12, 2007 (edited) thanks for your help everyone. i have come to the decision that i will get an aftermarket Tacho, something not wanky looking, and black faced. I plan to mount it on the steering column. I have seen electrical and mechanical tachos, which one suits my car?. cheers :) Edited July 12, 2007 by ae71wagonater Quote
Des Posted July 12, 2007 Report Posted July 12, 2007 WTF is a mechanical tacho, Never seen one before. I'm using this in my corona Quote
Kebin[RL] Posted July 20, 2007 Report Posted July 20, 2007 I have two tachos in my ae71... the original and a digital one which sits where the original radio is. It also has a shift light and voltmeter built in and also capable of being a turbo timer  This is it: http://cgi.ebay.com.au/D1-Spec-5-in-1-Mult...1QQcmdZViewItem Quote
