Ae71 Tacho

hey everyone, i am currently doing a 4age 20valve silvertop conversion to my AE71 cs station wagon. the car is currently away getting the AE71 wiring integrated with the AE101 wiring. i am trying to figure out what i should do about a tacho, weather i should get an ae71 tacho dash cluster, or just go with an aftermarket tacho. I am new to this so all help and suggestions greatly appreciated. heres some pics

Hey mate,

depends on the look your going for, if your doing custom interior then i'd go with a nice subtle aftermarket tacho otherwise try and find a original tacho dash. just my opinion.

Personally I'd go the Stock tacho cluster, Monster tachos just seem to attract the wrong sort of attention..

i was kind of leaning towards an aftermarket tacho, merely because it seemed easier to wire up since they are universal and all. But i am all in favour of the original look. is it hard to rig up the AE71 tacho cluster with a 4age 20v?. cheers.

I'm led to believe you can wire the original tacho to work fine by finding the pulse wire and splicing it into the factory loom...

thanks for your help everyone. i have come to the decision that i will get an aftermarket Tacho, something not wanky looking, and black faced. I plan to mount it on the steering column. I have seen electrical and mechanical tachos, which one suits my car?.

I have two tachos in my ae71... the original and a digital one which sits where the original radio is. It also has a shift light and voltmeter built in and also capable of being a turbo timer :wink:
