B.L.Z.BUB Posted May 4, 2012 Report Posted May 4, 2012 All the sodas I drink now are diet, not because I'm worried about my weight but sugary ones always make me thirstier. Plus once you cut the sugar out you can't go back, it tastes terrible. Quote
B.L.Z.BUB Posted May 4, 2012 Report Posted May 4, 2012 Its one of the most widely tested and regulated food additives in history. Ill take my chances. Quote
towe001 Posted May 4, 2012 Report Posted May 4, 2012 My uncle's diabetic and he won't even touch the stuff or any artificial sweeteners for that matter. Its real sugar or nothing for him. Quote
ke70dave Posted May 4, 2012 Report Posted May 4, 2012 yeah I'm not sold on all these food additives. i don't think we really know the long term effects of most/all of them. but seems you can't buy anything without some sort of human intervention with a chemical. the next 50yrs will be very interesting i think. carbonboy Posted May 4, 2012 Report Posted May 4, 2012 If you REALLY want to mess up a baristas day as payback for a cruddy coffee the day before, order a weak, skinny-soy, decaf latte with half an Equal. I found the quality of my coffee improved remarkably from that point. What I'm most curious about is not a food additive, but part of your cookware. The Teflon coatings on baking trays, frying pans etc, it eventually starts coming off. Even minute amounts getting into your food over time may have severe consequences, Teflon hasn't been around long enough for proper long term testing in this regard for us to know anything. Genetically modified foods are even further behind time-wise. Quote
B.L.Z.BUB Posted May 4, 2012 Report Posted May 4, 2012 (edited) No worries with teflon as it wont stick to your insides And since the advent of farming plants humans have been genetically modifying them. Edited May 4, 2012 by B.L.Z.BUB Quote

Mercury's pretty slippery too, that doesn't leave the human system easliy. :( That's true, I was thinking more along the lines of science lab rather than cross-pollimating. Taking chromosomes from, say, glow-worms & adding it to corn so you get glow-in-the-dark popcorn (bad example maybe). Things that would NEVER occur naturally, humans just have to go & f**k with everything. :( Edited May 4, 2012 by carbonboy Quote
B.L.Z.BUB Posted May 4, 2012 Report Posted May 4, 2012 yeah but there is the non mad scientists out there (the majority) who while working for the bottom line are also producing strains of modified crops resistant to natural viruses and shit so we don't need pesticides. Plants that don't need as much water, or room to grow. There is so much to benefit from it and it is controlled in the strictest way possible. Most people all they see is terrible B movies and Today Tonight articles blowing things out of proportion making it harder for these people to do their jobs. And the worst part is the majority of people who are against it don't have the slightest idea what they are talking about. (not using you as an example :) ) Example: I got asked to sign a petition against GE, and declined. Then they asked me why and I explained that I believe it has great merit and possibilities to solve major world food shortage problem. They started going on about how multiglobal corporations control it and how the GE technology will never filter down to those who need it. I asked them then why they werent getting signatures to change that aspect of the issue if they admit it can be of benefit. Blank stares. :bash: People on the band wagon. Quote

This I agree with & am all for, I'm not saying don't do it, just that care & knowing when you're messing-with-something-you-shouldn't be are required. Hence the control/regulations. I don't have much of an idea, but cheers! :y: I'm not against GE, I just wish human nature would focus on priorities, not what it seems to want (I could be wrong here, I'm just a cynical bastard at times). A priority for example would be the disease resistant crops or helping solve food shortages, what it wants (in this, case aforementioned global corporations) would be money. In the case of human engineering, curing genetic diseases/disorders would be a nice priority, as opposed to things like 'designer babies' (I want this colour eyes, this colour hair etc). People who give me a pre-rehearsed spiel & ask me to sign something get ignored, I'd decline too. Edited May 4, 2012 by carbonboy Quote

Jono.C Posted May 4, 2012 Report Posted May 4, 2012 (edited) I hate the fact Justin Biebers "songs" if you call them that, Some have 20,000,000 views for a song that just repeats the term 'baby' over, and over, and over. Yet, 2Pac for example, Some of his only have 2,000,000~ He actually had stuff to say! If you compare the lyrics.. If pac had been alive today, as a pre-pubescent teen like Bieber he'd have Trillions of views. I bet. This will always be incredible. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r9uEtplq6CI Edited May 4, 2012 by Jono.C Quote
