rockinrolla Posted August 28, 2007 Report Posted August 28, 2007 I have been building an engine for my sons first car (KE20) so far I have balanced the 4K bottom end, 3k big port head, factory twin carbies, extractors and a 2 inch sports exhaust, with a 5 speed, the car will be spending a lot of time on the highway so 2500rpm upwards will be the starting point and hopefully it wont be going past 7000rpm to often, but boys being boys he'll give it his best shot, but does anyone out there have any good ideas of what profile to use of where to find out. :D :) :) :hmm: :hmm: :hmm: Quote

coln72 Posted August 28, 2007 Report Posted August 28, 2007 Wade 169 profile worked well in a 5K with similar mods. Quote
old corolla bloke Posted August 28, 2007 Report Posted August 28, 2007 i used a bert jones 30/70 with good results in a 4k reasonable low end and more top end than the standard twin carbs could deliver cheers brian Quote
rolla_boy70 Posted August 30, 2007 Report Posted August 30, 2007 609 cam grind good for that kind rev range Quote

Felix Posted August 30, 2007 Report Posted August 30, 2007 For best power between 2500-7000 rpm in a 4k I'd look at a cam around 256-260 degrees duration. Keep in mind that a 4k's powerband will be about 1000 rpms higher for a given cam, compared to running the same cam in a 5k. So if someone says my cam will pull hard from 3500-7500 in a 5k, it will more than likely work from 4500-8500 in a 4k. Quote

Sorry I havn't replied earlier but all the information was fantastic, I went and located a 5K and pulled it apart and tried a lot of things and found the best set up and another test car to put it in so I could compare the results, I have scince told my son that he will eventually have the 5K and 5 speed but will have to learn in the 4K and 5 speed single carb version as I'm having to much fun. Thank You to everyone for all of the information, I'm having an absolute ball. :jamie: :P :) :lolcry: :lolcry: :lolcry: :lolcry: :lolcry: :jamie: :jamie: :jamie: Quote
kangaroosa Posted December 3, 2007 Report Posted December 3, 2007 (edited) Just to add to my previous post....I have since changed back to the Wade 240 grind and personally i think its the best suited cam i have had so far. The 140-6 was waaay to big, and i had to rev the guts out of it, to make it move. Just something to think about when you get the 5K up and running. Edited December 4, 2007 by kangaroosa Quote
