Pure-SX Posted April 16, 2007 Report Posted April 16, 2007 I would like to thank Adam for giving myself and my younger brother a ride in the starlet and for giving me a few pointers and for THRASHING MY CAR lol it was fun. Adam do you really think I can fit an SC14? Everywhere I have read it says clearance issues but I have read a few successful ones? WTF :y:
ancullen Posted April 16, 2007 Report Posted April 16, 2007 I'm not sure why there would be clearance issues. The SC14 is the same width and height as the SC12, it's just longer, so it will sit further back along the engine than the SC12. So it'll go as close to the firewall as the SC12. Unless the firewall sticks out behind where the SC12 sits perhaps???
Pure-SX Posted April 17, 2007 Report Posted April 17, 2007 yeah sounds kewl only time will tell I suppose anyway if the SC14 aint fit I'm sure the sc12 will still be fun, atm my first priority is getting my kit on and then a possible full respray.
ancullen Posted April 17, 2007 Report Posted April 17, 2007 An SC12 on a 20v would be awesome, although you'll need to decide how you'd do it, eg: Â Standard 20v motor with SC12 bolted on 4A-GZE bottom end (with SC12) with 20v head bolted on 4A-GZE pistons & supercharger installed into/onto your current 20v engine. Â With the standard 20v plus an SC12, I would encourage you to get an MR2 supercharger and limit the boost to about 8psi max. You should get pretty good power, very strong torque, but you can't have boost too high or you'll crack a piston (like Beau Yates did when he upped his boost with standard 20v pistons). Â If you go with either the whole 4A-GZE bottom end, or even just the pistons (won't make much difference either way), you should go with the late AE92 or AE101 version, as you'll maintain a reasonable compression ratio of 8.9:1, but can run quite high boost, as GZE pistons are meant to be good for up to 28psi. Unfortunately the SC12 is only good for about 15psi max, but that's heaps anyway. On 15psi with an SC12 with the 20v head, you should make about 250hp at the engine. With the SC14 you'd make more power again as it flows a greater volume of air at the same maximum boost as the SC12. I don't know exactly how much it'd affect the power figure, but I would think that 280-300hp would be a reasonable target. Â Do remember that the supercharger uses power to make power, whereas a turbo is like free power (except for the lag factor). An AE92/101 4A-GZE makes 170hp, while the same engine with the supercharger removed and replaced by a GT25 running 10psi boost seems to make 200-220hp.
wasfishing Posted April 17, 2007 Report Posted April 17, 2007 boosted 20v would be kool what were was my ride in the starlet   Finally sum progress on my 4age head is off doesnt look to bad lotsa #### build up on piston black crap but looks ok and so do the valves i don't get y it onli had 10psi compression in one cycl anyone know what i should b lookin for.
Pure-SX Posted April 17, 2007 Report Posted April 17, 2007 I would prefer a SC14 as its a little different and a little extreme, as for the options of using a gze bottom end or gettin my engine rebuilt with gze pistons it would most probably come down to a cost thing. I can source brand new 8.9:1 gze pistons and rings for about 750-800 last time I checked. Supercharger is so much more appealing than turbo instant boost WOOP WOOP
Killswitch Posted April 17, 2007 Report Posted April 17, 2007 I was contemplating supercharging my 4age, but blows the budget out big time - mainly in ECU cost. Chargers themselves aren't that expensive at all! Not sure what bracketry is required, or pulleys or what not. but hmm... Â almost, more likely to break shit with one which is not what I want! Â 4AGE + more comp +longer cams and some cheapo piggy back is probably the way I'll go :y:
ancullen Posted April 17, 2007 Report Posted April 17, 2007 4A-GZE + more comp + longer cams + Microtech FTW!!! Â Oh, and I was chatting to a bloke at work (at CDU) and he knows the guy that built my Corolla originally (or had it built anyway), as well as knowing the guy I bought it off and the guy that owned it before him. Sweet.
wasfishing Posted April 18, 2007 Report Posted April 18, 2007 me engine now is in more bits block n sump on stand head on desk and everything else in a big box on the floor. Â Â And my car is booked in for next week Wednesday :y:
ancullen Posted April 18, 2007 Report Posted April 18, 2007 Why's the engine in bits? What work are you getting done?
wasfishing Posted April 18, 2007 Report Posted April 18, 2007 its my spare engine the 4age and i dunno what work yet i don't know whats wrong with it. 10psi in one cycl apprently so trying to see might hav to get the head checked out or buy urs lol
ancullen Posted April 19, 2007 Report Posted April 19, 2007 Ahh, you did mention that. I just forgot. Hopefully the heads aren't too far away, just waiting till the seller has the funds to send them. I paid for them ages ago cause he needed the money, but I was leaving them with him to get porting work done. I've since decided that I don't really need them done on a flow bench, and will get them done up here instead, so when he's got some money he'll send them up. And yes, he's trustworthy.
Pure-SX Posted April 19, 2007 Report Posted April 19, 2007 Daniel(current owner of Dui's 86) took me for a spin today, ZOMG IT WAS f@$kING SHWEET that car is damn quick, I was looking at buying it but my dad managed to talk me out of it as its not the ideal A to B car, but all I can say is its a f*cking fast car lol
ancullen Posted April 20, 2007 Report Posted April 20, 2007 I spotted the 86 in Casuarina yesterday, with who I presume is Daniel behind the wheel. That was such a fast car when Duy had it, and it's reputed to be far quicker again with the new, bigger turbo and more power at the wheels. But I don't know that it's worth $14,000.
