wasfishing Posted May 23, 2007 Report Posted May 23, 2007 Nar its just the intercooler core i saw one for $200 on toymods. Water pump shouldnt be to exspensive, a condenser will be cheap or free and water lines cheap as i recon i can do it fairly cheaply.
ancullen Posted May 23, 2007 Report Posted May 23, 2007 (edited) I was sure you could get the cores for under $100 off eBay, but now I can't find any, so maybe I was wrong. Oh well, at least you've got one now. If yours works well I might have to look at setting one up for myself - I'd love to be able to chuck some ice in to get super cool air for the drags! wasfishing Posted May 23, 2007 Report Posted May 23, 2007 Dam u caught me out thats also in the plan, small aluminum can, with a screw cap that the water flows thou and fill with ice, either that or straight into the intercooler filler.
ancullen Posted May 23, 2007 Report Posted May 23, 2007 I'd go straight into the intercooler filler. Â I've been reading up on the ARE water-to-air intercoolers (on the ARE site) and apparently a front mount air-to-air intercooler provides better cooling (about 8-12 degrees) than a water-to-air when moving at speed. The water-to-air is better when you're not moving, or moving slowly. That being said, when you put ice into the water-to-air, I would expect WAY better cooling than air-to-air.
wasfishing Posted May 23, 2007 Report Posted May 23, 2007 ANd when there is no figin way to front mount its ur best opion
ancullen Posted May 24, 2007 Report Posted May 24, 2007 I'm trying to decided whether to go front mount or water-to-air on the AE71. It's not a decision I need to make really quickly, but I want to work things out in advance, before I start work on that side of things. I do want quick throttle response, so water-to-air provides a lot of benefits there, but a front mount is cheaper. I'll probably go with water-to-air as I can set it up with significantly shorter piping, plus I REALLY like the idea of putting ice in.
ancullen Posted May 24, 2007 Report Posted May 24, 2007 Oh yeah, and as I plan on having air con in the car, I'm thinking about trying to set something up so the air con provides extra cooling for the air intake. Not sure how hard/easy it'll be though, or how effective it'd be. The air con will drain power from the engine, but if it's there anyway, it may as well provide some benefit.
wasfishing Posted May 24, 2007 Report Posted May 24, 2007 aircon is great got mine fixed yesterday, but can feel it draining all my powa, remeber water obsorbes 3 times as much heat as air does, so uve got that bonus and i don't think my water will get hot having to run all the way to the front of my car and bak. Â Not 2 sure about my air intake atm, ill show u at the motakana and u can tell me what u think.
ancullen Posted May 24, 2007 Report Posted May 24, 2007 Water may absorb 3 times the energy air does (which is why ARE were so keen on doing water-to-air intercoolers), but for whatever reason the air-to-air is more efficient at speed. Â And at the motorkhana we DEFINITELY need to have a drag - the yellow Corolla will be there and I'd love to know which is quicker.
wasfishing Posted May 24, 2007 Report Posted May 24, 2007 OK DONE, I'm not scared of u just scared of not getting traction, hmm what to do about tyres. atm i hav cheapos on the the front do u need grippy ones for the dirt or will i be ok?
wasfishing Posted May 24, 2007 Report Posted May 24, 2007 N about the air 2 air at speed i can see that as ur goin so fast ur movin so much air through the fins so yea.
ancullen Posted May 24, 2007 Report Posted May 24, 2007 If you've got cheapies on the front and better ones on the back, just switch them around. You want more grip on the front than the rear, especially in your car where you've got so much weight over the rear.
wasfishing Posted May 24, 2007 Report Posted May 24, 2007 onli prob is the rears are mixed match ie ones a yoky one sumtin else maybe i need to buy my 2 new front tyres
ancullen Posted May 24, 2007 Report Posted May 24, 2007 I don't think it's really worth it for the motorkhana, especially since it'll be your first in this car. Plus it won't really matter that much if the tyres are miss-matched.
wasfishing Posted May 24, 2007 Report Posted May 24, 2007 ok ill swap them around wen i get out there and then ill go to a tyre shop during the week after the kana, Seen a sc12 for sale in the other thread with the brakets to suit a k series motor thats pretty cool weres danno. Maybe thats what imnost is doing with the car off the rd
