irokin Posted October 15, 2004 Report Posted October 15, 2004 Yes, QT needs to do some big reforms, they have some big problems. Quote
demuire Posted October 20, 2004 Author Report Posted October 20, 2004 Bruce came round and picked up the car yesterday. After seeing it he's decided to pull the dash out too, so that the bars go straight through it instead of around it. Would probably look better and work better... Car should be back sometime the week after next, don't know if I'm going to enter QMC Rnd 2 yet, don't know if I'll have a car that works! I might give it a miss... Quote
demuire Posted November 3, 2004 Author Report Posted November 3, 2004 Car is back. And oooooh boy I've got a lot of stuff to get done before I can even start the car again... Quote
trdcamrypride Posted November 3, 2004 Report Posted November 3, 2004 sounds good was it a good job any pics? Quote
Redwarf Posted November 3, 2004 Report Posted November 3, 2004 Are you happy with it? I know Waynes cage is a Dummett built one, and it's quite acceptable. Good welds? I'd be interested to have a look. P.S: the big slap hammer is here whenever you need it...... Quote
demuire Posted November 3, 2004 Author Report Posted November 3, 2004 No pics yet, by the time I got the car into the garage it was about 10pm. Working alone and slowly pulling the car up the hill with a block and tackle in the rain is slow and painful. And then came the fun bit when the car got to the top of the driveway and decided to roll down it a bit earlier than expected, which had me chasing it down the driveway and trying to stick my head into the window to pull on the handbrake, I stopped it about a bees thingy before it hit the wall  And then repeat when it got to the bottom of the driveway, except I didn't stop it in time and it ran into my wall of wheels at the bottom of the driveway... Oops :D Aaaaanyways. As far as a cage goes, yes am happy with it. Haven't looked at it too closely (was dark and wet), but design looks good, welds look alright. The only problem now is how to get the trim back into the car (if you thought you had no space between your main hoop and your rear trim, you should see mine. Plus he's "tied" the cage to the side of the car too so will need to cut trim to fit), my rear windows aren't operatable anymore (can't turn the window winders because cage in way), dash no longer fits (cage in way and original mounting points have been cut off because cage in way). Might have to weld some custom mounts to the cage to remount the dash, don't know yet. Also don't know how to fit original inertia reel seatbelts back in, cage in way. Anyway, apart from all these "putting back together" issues, the cage looks pretty good. It's unpainted so I'd better get something onto it soon before it starts to rust (especially since it got wet in the rain last night) Might be interesting trying to paint it in the car without getting paint everywhere else. Will have to mask off everything else :) Quote
demuire Posted November 3, 2004 Author Report Posted November 3, 2004 Hmm, I wonder if I'm even allowed to weld brackets to the cage? Should probably check before I go and do something silly  The dash crossmember that supports the dash (that no longer bolts in because of lack of mounting brackets) also supports the steering column, so has to be reasonably well supported... Nitephyre Posted November 3, 2004 Report Posted November 3, 2004 nice pics man. now Hal is just screaming for a custom dash  Quote
trdcamrypride Posted November 4, 2004 Report Posted November 4, 2004 looks good fook it will be better when hal is all back together and out running again. Quote
Teddy Posted November 4, 2004 Report Posted November 4, 2004 thats looking lovely fook :D if you need a hand with the dash, I'm always open :) - or custom if ure feeling up to it  Quote
demuire Posted November 4, 2004 Author Report Posted November 4, 2004 Oh wow I never imagined it would be so difficult to paint a cage once it is in the car... Quote
Redwarf Posted November 4, 2004 Report Posted November 4, 2004 Isn't it just!!!!! Been there and done that a couple of times. I generally just use matt black, although Wanye wants to paint the inside of Bluey white..... Quote
demuire Posted November 4, 2004 Author Report Posted November 4, 2004 White is nice for finding things in the car. I'm keeping mine white (or more like brown and whatever other color dirt is in the car). Painting the cage charcoal like virtually everything that isn't white inside the car... Have done about 1/3 of the cage now. Have paint speckles on the insides of the windows, meh it'll scrape off... Or so I keep telling myself  Going to try to finish at least the rear half of the cage tonight. The front half is the harder bit, can't even fit the spray can nozzle between the windscreen and the cage, no idea how I'm going to paint the opposite side of the cage (visible through the windscreen!)
