ae71 csx Posted November 29, 2007 Report Posted November 29, 2007 hay guys just wanting to no what has to be done to get a mod plate like do i hav to change the brakes when putting a 4age in or what else. does anyone know of a round about price of what it costs for one thanks any help is good Quote
dfunkt Posted November 29, 2007 Report Posted November 29, 2007 step 1: ring engineer. tell him what engine you're putting in and all the other mods you were thinking of doing. step 2: listen to what the engineer tells you you will need to do. step 3: complete the list of what is/needs to be done for the conversion cost = total of all mods + $300~$800 for an engineers certificate (i think they can get expensive) + time and $ at road authorities Quote
Redwarf Posted November 29, 2007 Report Posted November 29, 2007 ^^^^^^^^^ That's it in a nutshell. Have everything that you want to do planned or your conversation will last about 15 secs after the first "I don't know yet". Their time is valuable, and having worked for one, they really dislike having it wasted. Remember the 6 P's. Prior Planning Prevents a Piss Poor Performance. Quote
LittleRedSpirit Posted November 29, 2007 Report Posted November 29, 2007 As the criteria goes in QLD, you don't technically need for a mod plate in that case. KE70 you would, since you are upping capacity. AE71 is same capacity, atmo anyhow, efi doesn't affect the rules either, has standard mounts, gearbox, etc. Its just a replacement engine really. If you do a surge tank maybe that needs to be looked at, but I have a baffled tank. They don't ask about power figures. I had the lady at the DOT look at mine and I'm sure she only pretended she could see the engine number, as it was under a hot exhaust. Do what you have to do. Quote
ae174agze Posted November 29, 2007 Report Posted November 29, 2007 just abit off topic what about if you were to put a 4agze in would the forced induction needed to be modplated Quote
LittleRedSpirit Posted November 29, 2007 Report Posted November 29, 2007 (edited) just abit off topic what about if you were to put a 4agze in would the forced induction needed to be modplated Yes, I believe so, it will need engineering and to be inspected at qld transport, but really only for the engine number change and modified vehicle details. Check with your own government because it varies wildly from state to state. A good engineer and a sensible owner will want to upgrade their brakes and suspension to boot in most cases I would say. Redwarf Posted November 29, 2007 Report Posted November 29, 2007 In Qld forced induction has to be mod plated with an LA3 plate. Quote
oh what a nissan feeling! Posted November 29, 2007 Report Posted November 29, 2007 ^^^^Yep, this is true. A simple mod plate can be very cheap, a full engineers report can be very expensive. Generally, an engineers report is obtained when your engineer follows the build of your car while it is not registered, inspecting it at various stages along the way, and at the end, you cop a bill, and a pretty blue plate. A mod plate can be obtained for as little as $40 (lucky cos i have 7 so far), for something as simple as putting forced induction on an existing motor. Remember, for any mod plates your entire vehicle will be first inspected for a full rwc. Quote
ae71 csx Posted November 29, 2007 Author Report Posted November 29, 2007 thanks guys my car is regoed (nsw) already i was wondering it is 1.6 litrer thats in it at the moment (4ac)and I'm not changing the capacity at all as littleredspirit said but what would happen if i say did it right and ready for a enginers certificate but didnt get one and drove around on it like that i no a mate who does pink slips so thats no problem when rego comes around basically what would cops do defect and go get engineers cert or what thanks alot guys  Quote
LittleRedSpirit Posted November 29, 2007 Report Posted November 29, 2007 No-one is really gonna tell you to be dodgy and condone it, you have to make that decision on your own. Quote

But they are also the ones who whinge the most when they get pulled up, because if its not engineered, and the cops, as dumb as they can be, know its been modified, they will defect you for EVERYTHING that looks remotely non standard. If you havent got the money to go to an engineer, then you probably don't have the money to do the conversion properly either... Quote

Redwarf Posted November 30, 2007 Report Posted November 30, 2007 Also remember, no engineers / mod plate = no insurance. Quote
