I've found a 1984 AE86 Levin for around 5k. I understand this model comes with the 4A-C. First of all, is this price (barring mechanical fault) a good one, and also, is the 4A-C a good engine?

the 4ac is pretty poo. single cam version of a 4age...

 

what you gonna be using it for? if you want a car for drift, u'll need to spend a lot more money on engine, suspension and drivline..

 

how much rust has it got? where abouts you located?

 

got any pics of the car?

It's got a kit and an expensive stereo in it. Shocking orange colour which I would eventually respray to white (kit and bonnet are black). I'd be using it as a daily and for hillclimbs (take stereo out, put stereo back in, repeat).

As far as I know, genuine Levins only came out with 4AGE's.

 

I could be wrong as my knowledge of them is limited to say the best.

i had a look at it in carsales. Looks ok.

 

when you go to take a look at it make sure you look carefully for any rust. also i may be wrong but all the attention he's given to the appearance of the car rather than the way it runs or handles could be an indication of how its been treated...

 

this is just by looking at the ad though so again, go take a look in person to get a better idea.

 

an indication of price, i bought a JDM GT-APEX with a lot of money spent on suspension and 4 to 1 extractors for 10k.

 

5 grand for a local, 4ac, open diff stocka may be a little steap. but again go take a look at it to get a better idea.

Thanks Monkii, that helps :lolcry: The plan is to offer him 4.5 staged, 3.3 down. I am worried about the exact same thing, that he's worried more about visuals and sound rather than mechanics, but I will of course have it looked over by a mechanic.

 

Redwarf (cool name) I checked on Wiki before making this post. Says all 1984 models came with 4A-C. I'm also a little worried that he advertised this as a Sprinter and not a Levin...

thats an adm sprinter its not a levin. and levins came ge as redwarf said.

Woah, information overload. I googled 86dc to no avail, can you link me? Also googled adm and found a lot for sale for above my price bracket, but no explanation on what it is. Could you enlighten me?

Do some research, take your time buying if your not to sure what your looking at. I found its best to know what your buying and what your looking out for, than just rushing into a buy because it looks clean. Goodluck with the buy when you end up deciding on a car though :lolcry:

I can't get over the obscene prices people pay for something thats JUST A COROLLA. You can pickup clean, well maintained CA18DET Silvias for those kind of prices and they're a far easier car to modify with loads more bang for buck.

That is pretty damn ugly, and its definitely not worth 5k. And its definitely a sprinter....definitely haha
