here's a couple of photos that show why Toyota went to a 42mm big end journal in the 100 kw engine.

this engine has only 160,000 km's on it and it wasn't driven hard?

Aah, I thought mr2's all had the bigger cranks..

No, Might be a 7 rib block but small internals, That 4age i had with the holes in the pistons was a 7rib block with small internals and no oil squirter's.

it's a very early MR2, this one was made in 1984. and it's an auto.

call around and see Tony sometime, he'll tell you all about it.

Mine was from an MR2 but I'm not sure on the year but most likely an early one as well.

he was driving home from work and it just started making noises, it's just a standard 86kw 4AGE 84 MR2 auto.

hasn't been played with at all!!! :lolcry:

rev's would have been under 4 grand, easy.

if it had a oil problem it would have run a bearing not snaped the crank. the oil level was full, pressure was oil & it had not long ago had a oil change. i think the crank had fault in it. all the other bearings look overrated except for the middle main which supplys that big end bearing, it looked like it had run low on oil, but still wasn't bad.
