thomo Posted January 1, 2008 Report Posted January 1, 2008 i've got the little ke30 up and running seems quite good apart from killing front tyres every 250 kms  but thats probably got something to do with the driver, not the car anyway, has anyone tried entering targa tazzi or classic ad. ? the rollas don't seem to popular with the selectors, any way to get mine picked over the escort/1600/usual stuff they let in? don't plan to go for a year or two, but will bash up another rolla for the job so if theres anything that would need to be included, guess nows the time to find out Quote
Doogs Posted January 1, 2008 Report Posted January 1, 2008 ^^^^ yeah x 2 i may try to enter in the future (when i got money to burn) Quote
Redwarf Posted January 2, 2008 Report Posted January 2, 2008 FIA spec cage. FIA belts, FIA clothing. $4K entry for targa, 6K entry for classic adelaide. Plus expenses. Budget 10K for a cheap targa, 15 if you want to do it properly. A KE30 may not make it, but a TE27 or 37 Replica may get in. I already had approval from the C of C for an Isuzu Bellett. The type of vehicle needs to have a "racing heritage", so you may want to give octagon a call to confirm your choice of car. 4AG's in early Corolla's don't cut it. If you go to the Targa Tassie site they should have supp regs and build rules for you to look at. You must have some cubic dolars that you don't like.... Quote
coln72 Posted January 2, 2008 Report Posted January 2, 2008 (edited) 4AGE might be ok if a Damiler with a 350 chev was allowed to run in Targa......... Contact Octagon if you are really interested. Why not volunteer to be an official to get an idea what it is all about before commiting big bucks. Edited January 2, 2008 by coln72 Quote
thomo Posted January 2, 2008 Author Report Posted January 2, 2008 10 was roughly what I'm happy to waste, i can right most of it off on tax, more than that may get me in trouble with mr tax man, but the 30/4age thing is the hassle, i like my 30's !! even if i drag out one of the 20's its lots of starting from scratch r&d wise, best i go through the rule books, got some 30/55 coupes may have more chance, i've never heard of the 37, guessing 1600 30/55 coupe, i'll look into that to any idea how strict they are on mods? 4 wheel disc, rack and pinion steer, the twin cam will obviously be a little problem volunteering not much of an option, to hard to get out of work, havent had a holiday in years, this is kind of my big idea to get away for a bit and have something to do, no family holidays to plan so may as well do something involving speed, cars, burning fuel, danger, and sightseeing all in one!! Redwarf Posted January 2, 2008 Report Posted January 2, 2008 Supp regs and class info are on their web page, that's the first place I'd start, but I think you'd be having to look 2TG rather than 4AG. Quote
Redwarf Posted January 2, 2008 Report Posted January 2, 2008 Here we go: http://www.camsmanual.com.au/pdf/road/1112...ssic%20Q108.pdf From what I read the Ke30 only came out as a TE30, with the 2T engine. To go 2TG you would need a coupe/ hardtop shell. 4AG's are out being too new and too many valves. That's the bible, that's what you have to conform to. Also, have a look at this: http://www.targa.com.au/Competitors/VehicleSelection.html Happy reading. R Quote
7shades Posted January 2, 2008 Report Posted January 2, 2008 Slightly off topic... but indulge me... I've always had, (and still do) have ambitions of starting a Targa event up here.... I really think it would work. Now all I need is several hundred thousand dollars to make it happen. Anyone got a hat I can pass around? Quote
thomo Posted January 2, 2008 Author Report Posted January 2, 2008 if your REALLY good at filling out forms and sitting through meetings, good chance of getting QLD gov. to foot the bill, they seem much more open minded about motorsports and the publicity it brings in than the seat polishing public servant pricks that run this shitty little town, they shut down the gmc here because for 1 week a year it took 15 min longer to get a park spot in town, ok, it cost 3 mil to put on, but they made a fortune out of it, and for almost a year the rest of the country actualy thought humans lived here, not just wankers my rant over so I'm weighing up 2 options, the 20 (have 2), seam it, cage it, 2t, rules not exactly clear, any clue how a 30 wheel track/ stud paturn would fair? provided i use the right offset wheels its stock but compleatly not option 2, 30 hard top coupe ( have 2 of them as well) same shopping list more or less, but WAY heavier, again i run 70 diff and x member in them, fwd rims keep the wheels in but the traction better, just don't like those fat rims sticking out there, stuffs the bearings and makes the steering twitchy (unlike mine that just lets go without warning  ) Quote
thomo Posted January 2, 2008 Author Report Posted January 2, 2008 this one, all set to start welding no coupe photos in the computer yet, i hate computers, you can't hit them with hammers to fix them Quote
towe001 Posted January 2, 2008 Report Posted January 2, 2008 if your REALLY good at filling out forms and sitting through meetings, good chance of getting QLD gov. to foot the bill, they seem much more open minded about motorsports and the publicity it brings Your joking right A couple of years back the residents of Maroochydore/Mooloolaba were up in arms cause of the "hoons" over the weekends so a car friendly councilor started up a petition to get the "hoons" off the streets by setting up a self-funding motor complex. Just about every "hoon" and most of the fed-up residents signed it, the local cops even voted for it - the government knocked it back, too much effort and the money would be better spent on "other things"..... The Gympie driver training skidpan is getting shut down, permanently, in a few years or so..... The rally that gets held at Imbil forestry is more then likely getting the can as well in a few years or so - unless they move it....... Quote
thomo Posted January 3, 2008 Author Report Posted January 3, 2008 your just not putting out for the right people  have to admit, i'd never try it not with local councils, state level maybe, as long as its not near them, they'll ok about anything for a buck Quote
7shades Posted January 3, 2008 Report Posted January 3, 2008 I've been staging large events (albeit more along the lines of concerts and festivals) up here for a while. I'm on very good terms with the 'powers that be' in regard to public events. The logistics are surprisingly similar... Quote
snot35 Posted January 3, 2008 Report Posted January 3, 2008 As far as the Classic Adelaide goes, if you're going for competition then I think they are pretty keen on preserving the classic feel of the event, so you're definitely stuck with older cars. I think the regs they run are outside of CAMS as well, at least they used to be. Have a look here: http://www.silverstoneevents.com/ca07/comp...on_suppregs.htm I get the impressiong Targa is a little more open and you can run more interesting combinations. If I were doing the Classic I'd go for something I could squeeze a 2TG in. There has been a KE15 sprinter that's been running in it for years, I'm pretty sure they pop up on this forum every now and then. Do a bit of searching around, I'm sure they'll be able to help a lot.
