i wouldn't say my progress has been speedy :D I'm barley able to do anything on it when I'm not on holidays, and i missed a week this time becuse i was on holidays :wub: but next term is short and they need to reports in 3 weeks before skool ends so i can really get stuck into it :hug: atm I'm working on a gaylord graphics assignment and taking ages

Just got the rest of the stuff I need for electronic ignition for my ECU, the trigger wheel will need to be welded onto the pulley wheel

Ok, ive got the hang of body putty. Just have to do the doors and guards now.

 

Got an orbital sander which works a treat at getting the paint off. Just a question, do I need to go all the way to metal or just the original primer? I'm getting some mixed thoughts.

 

Also, HOW THE f@$k do u get control arm bushes in!?!?!?!!?! Teddy and I spend a day trying to get one in, and failed.

Hell, we tried everything.

 

Made up SST's to suit the lower controle arm, so that when we were trying to vice-press the bush in, the controle arm wouldnt bend and what not, we iced' over the bushes and tried to put them in that way, i ended up smashing my left hand with the hammer, and I'm not sure if its broken or not, but it was enough to make jason go oh sh*t, like never before :D -> i may have to get it looked at, depending on how it is in the morning.

 

on other news, we went shopping :D -> got some cheap tools (more desolation), went to kellys on saturday morning, and tin snipped out a complete fuel 1/4 panel area out of a Pre-overrated Ae71 wagon :y: -> pics soon, holy crap what a job...

 

Once we get these lower controle arm bushes in, the cross member can be installed, the struts and all relating can be bolted up (doin it all in 1 hit) -> its getting there !!! :D :D :D

 

Also got a pop rivit gun, for undeneath guard work, hard to explain, but this biarch isnt going to rust when we are done :jamie:

Things left to do in near future...

 

- once lower controle arm bushes are in - put front end back together, get the front mobile

- Call motor dude, sort out the 4age, get crank angle stuff all sorted and fabricated

- Finish off underside of car, finish off rear guards, fabricating and all relating

- Install Diff to get it mobile at the rear, gota get adjustable panard rod too..

- Test Fit motor to get sizes and what not for intercooler, and piping

 

Alot of work to go, but it all in good time :)

if the original primer hasn't fallen off in 20 years, it's not going to fall off now, leave it on. this also has the added advantage that you can take your time prepping it and getting it smooth for a couple of coats of new primer, as opposed to having bare metal which is going to surface rust in a few weeks

Basically, if you want a nice flat finish, take it back to bare metal, otherwise the thinners in the new paint you go to spray can bring up the old paint from underneath and f@$k the finish up..

I would just like to say thet Jason and Teddy you are putting togother one mean ride. Oh how i whised i lived near you people. Anyway keep up the good work. It is going to be a screamer.

hehe thanks yeah carnt wait, ive been working non stop for a week on the body so i can get it in some paint!

 

Just finished stripping 2 door that are ready for paint. Boots stripped and debaged, bonets almost done, roofs done and boged. Still to come, bogging the rear guards. and fixing the tubs... o well better getback to it.

 

Also does any one have any samples of some grey/silver gunmetal paints?

i think i know which one your talking about

The type I'm looking at is the flat type like on 180sx's

Thats one of the colours i was contemplating doin mine in the future!

well my choises were either orange, silver or gun metal. Theres already so many orange rollas going around. So silver or gun. But after looking at some ae71's painted in dark colours, for some reason they seem to suit the head lights, soooooo. :P

dropping my stuff down to the engine builder next week, it was impossible to take the stuff there due to mum not being home during the day.

 

Any way, est about $375 so I'm budgeting for $400 worst case senario
