I am out to build myself a t series diff... My KE70 van needs a diff that will last and handle the 4agze

I am looking to purchase a trd lsd diff centre to suit a AE86 t series.

There are two different centres, due to difference in size of the big and small axles.

Since my KE70 had the smaller S series, I need to find a suitable T series diff to house the AE86 lsd centre.

Celica? Sprinter? T18? Big axle Vs small axle?

What can you guys tell me?

Cheers

Being a panel van you'll have leaf springs, you'll need to cut off the mounts and have them grafted onto any T series carrier you find. I'd get a the housing before the center. The big axels are from the late model AE86 JDM vehicles or AE92 tercels. Can be difficult to find at times. The earlier T series diffs are all small axel diffs.

Is the small axle T series diff , A strong unit that will hold the same amount of power as the large axle????

Well no, of course the big axles are stronger. But then stronger is all relative and it depends on the amount of abuse you intend giving it. Disc brake rear ends are pretty pricey and you are unlikely to know whether it is a small or large axle unit till you pull the centre out. As mentioned, the large axles are very hard to find and the tercel ones are not a direct replacement. Of course the centre you get needs to match the axles in size. These large axle T series rear ends are only found in late AE86's never delivered in Australia.

If you are concerned, you can always spend the money on the hiace conversion at the added cost of extra weight.

Otherwise you could bolt in a T18 rear end which will be fine for width (don't forget to factor this into your thinking), and axles are available fairly easily, plus a T series LSD will bolt in.

i have a complete small axle (zenki) t-series, has drums which i think are a little larger than s-series so you get a bit of a bonus upgrade there aswell.

Is this diff of yours for sale???? I have not been able to get my hands on a T18 or AE86 diff?

Are the diff housings the same for both large and small axles?

Could a big axle centre be bolted into a small axle housing?

If so, could I fit 2 billet axles to suit the centre? or are bearings going to be the problem?????

yes its for sale,

the only difference with the housings is the large axle with drum comes with swaybar mounts. as you have leaf this dosent matter anyway.

i can't comment on the jdm sprinter ones as I'm not 100% sure.

id say you could but the bigger centre in and use it with bigger (custom) axles if you wished. not sure on bearings though.

put it this way, a lot of people use t-series diffs for drifting with locked centres (much harder on axles than an lsd) and they don't break that often. Leighton fine when he was competing in hit 4agte sprinter used a large axle t-series without too many dramas until he broke the centre. personally i wouldnt worry about billet axles, aslong as your not using a locked centre it should last a while with spirited driving. but if your going to be doing alot of burnouts/drag launching with a locker/extra boost then axle life maybe shortened.

for the cost of billet axles you could buy a spare pair and have money left over or go for a much larger diff all together.

PM me if you wish to discuss this further with me.

As commented upon above, seeing as though you are going to have to change mounts anyway (leaf spring setup in the van). Might you just as well go for an RA40 T-series? They are much cheaper than an T-18 T-series because they aren't a bolt in job for an AE86 or KE70/AE71 sedan. LittleRedSpirit has been trying to sell one for a while now.

Correct me if I'm wrong but the only T-series large axle diff which is on an ADM car is from the AE9X series Corollas/Tercels which have the wrong stud pattern anyway to they probably aren't worth your time.

So in other words, small axle is probably the way to go because you'll find it much easier to find a suitable housing.

okay ill correct you..

series 2 t-18 had large axles... i dunno about the 4x4 wagons..

probalem with the ra40 diff is that its also wider, which emans if you have wheels to suit the car now they will be pushed out further..

Ah, its interesting that the series 2 had large axles, I thought they only brought them in during 1985 or something. Good to know anyway.
