Hey,

I was wondering if there are any Corona/Hilux/Pug conversion experts out there? Looks like my XT130 struts lower mounting holes are closer together, roughly around 99.7mm as opposed to the KE70's knuckle arms being 102mm ish.

I'm guessing I'll be needing the XT130 LCA and knuckle arms to finish it, if I find any. Theres quite a lack of them at the wreckers in Ballarat... And will they bolt in?

Along with finding that out, I also learned that EA falcon springs are way too big for the KE70 front strut? Or is my KE weird?

Is it at all easier to go for AE86 struts/hubs/calipers? I'm about 60% done with the Hilux brakes, just need 14" wheels (if they ever come up), landcruiser MC, pads, adjustable proportioning valve and brake lines. I just have to find find someone who does custom springs cheaper than Kings but I know I'll get exactly what I want. Coilovers will only happen if I can find em real cheap...

Thanks guys,

Ethan

i can't answer much but i can say that i have EA front springs not in my ke70 struts yet

but by having a look at them they look the same, if not a little smaller in diameter? or maybe it was slightly larger, eiether way they look prety similar to me

also cheap 14's = Ra60-65/tarago/some corona, stockies

if ur ever down this way(closer to city, eaastern suburbs) ive got a pair of 14" ra65 wheels with bald tyres u could have for 10 bux

also how much do kings do custom springs for?

AJPS do them for roughly 200 a pair i think? and u can get any spring rate u want which is pretty sick

Ahh K. I bought 2 pairs of EA rear springs. Which measure 143mm across and the original KE70 front spring measures 126mm roughly. To me, the falcon rear spring looked a little unsafe when I sat the top perch on it.

Are they the alloys or steelies? Where abouts are ya?

Kings do a pair of springs to any rate and spec you want for $260 and you get them in 10 days.

AJPS would not take my order or answer my email's let alone talk on MSN. And when I did speak to him, he didn't want to do custom springs at all for me, too much effort. Takes too long or some crap. Though what hes selling does sound great. Maybe I didn't order enough of it?

I've got a set of 14x6's which I may sell, would be looking for about $500. Brand new tyres on the back, near new tyres on the front. They are import JDM mags which JUST fill the stock gaurds on an AE71/KE70 not an inch to spare. Just thought I'd put up the offer if you are interested.

I was after 14x7 but out of curiosity, what do they look like?

Can I remind you all that this is a mechanical section which is intended to help with technical information which people may need.

Its not the For Sale Section, and Peddling is not allowed here.

As far as your question goes, you will need the Corona XT130 Lower Control Arms and Steering arms (knuckle arms). They will bolt in to the strut of course, being XT130 items already, and XT130 Lower Control Arms are worth getting due to the increased Neg Camber they provide. They will bolt in. The Steering arms are hard to find because AE86 boys use them.

For coilovers you can get your own struts chopped and welded to suit an AE86 shock, for a few hundred. Thats what I would do. I Cannot help with the Pug/Hilux brake setup.

y are u worrying about the ford stuff fitiing the ke70 front stuff if you are using corona stuff?

Well for a laugh I was going to put the Falcon springs in to see how it went, give me a rough idea on what spring rates I might want later down the track. But its ok, I'll just have a spare set for the back if I'd ever need it lol...

Yeah, I might have to get on to some of the knuckle arms from an XT130, AE86 or an RAxx Celica, apparently they fit and I had a measure of an RA60 today which may just be the go. And they all seem to have the same 52mm strut tube in common. I'll also look into a roll centre adjuster for the negative camber, might be easyier than finding XT130 LCA's lol.

Thanks for that.

u can use the standard rolla lca's, but yoy do need the corona steering arm, ive done it. Are u runnig rear disks? i didnt need any propotioning valve and i run rear drums and a MA61 supra master cylinder (modified booster to suit)

Ahh K. Is that with the corona knuckle arms? I was going to get AE86 powersteering or find something shorter.

When the brakes go in I'll be using the factory KE70 rear drums and the Hilux 4pot calipers with a landcruiser/hilux MC bolted to the KE70 booster. I had a couple of people recomend I use a adjustable proportioning valve because there will be a bit too much bias towards the rear brakes. The engineer I spoke to said I can use the factory diff with the 4A-GE 20V, thats the only reason the drums are staying for a little while.

Later down the track I'll be putting in a R31 Pintara diff or something similar. So I'll imagine I'll need it there again.

the corona arms arent bad, there not as quick as the p/steer ones but they work.

If your going to update the brakes later on then yeah, go the proportioning valve.

with the diff, its ultimately up to you of course but i wouldnt use a pintara diff, they have to be shortened, don't have a decent lsd (unless u buy a kaaz one) and if you do have to do anything to them they have to come out of the car. If your arent running silly hp, just go a T series, there light, strong and you can pull the center out with the diff still in the car if you need LSD or lash adjustments. Theres also plenty of LSD's and brake options available. They also bolt straight in (with the right tailshaft, check the faq and tech articles).

If you want to go silly hp, go a hilux, tough as nails, easy to get axles for, right length all you need to do to make them fit is redrill the studs to suit your car and weld the appropriate mounts on. To run disks, craft diffs in sydney have an adapter bracket to run R31 disks.

the added bonus is that if you break anything, u just have to goto the wreckers to get bits as opposed to custom axles and the like with the pintara.

Hmm. You may have changed all my ideas on the diff, I was only going down the R31 path because of the ratios and its also 114.3 4stud.

I was scared off the T series because of the prices I've seen.

What year and model is the Hilux diff out of? It may end up a 4A-GTE...
