Trev
Hey guys, The engine builder at work builds clubman bodies for a hobby and we got talking and it turns out i can get a chassis made up with spring and diff hangers reasonably cheap, I just wanna know if there is anyone else out there that races a clubman at all as i havent seen any on here and a search brings up too many topics, Thanks. ancullen
I don't race or own one, but have looked into kits for a project. Was thinking about taking the 4A-GZE out of my KE55 and dropping it in one of these. But I was disheartened when I saw that it would cost $20,000 minimum to get started. Would you attempt an IRS setup, or just go for a solid rear axle like so many of the 4A-powered Clubman's have?

Who did you go to for 20K, Thats almost 5 times more than what it should be costing me, I am going to be using the AE71 diff as thats also what alot of them use, I will see if the guy from work will get me some pics of his chassis. Trev
I forgot to mention that one of the hardest parts to get for the clubman is a front mounted steering otherwise the column would be mounted on a stupid angle if you used a common rear mounted rack. Birkin - http://www.birkin.com.au/Component_Kits_and_Pricing.php - admittedly that includes suspension components and many other bits. Nota - http://www.notasportscars.com/ I had a look at other kits, but these are typical of the pricing I found. Using the AE71 diff will make things a lot easier for you, but eliminates the possibility of an off the shelf LSD centre. A T-series would be ideal. Hiro Protagonist
One of my lecturers at uni (who's also the Co-ordinator for the Mechanical Engineering degree as well as an adviser to the SAE team) has a 20V Silvertop clubman, can't remember what chassis or drivetrain it uses though apart from the T50
ancullen
I'm amazed that a few of the Clubman kits use a Ford alloy five speed gearbox instead of the T50. I thought it would be easier to get a tailshaft modified than to get a bellhousing custom made.

I thought it would be easier to get a tailshaft modified than to get a bellhousing custom made. Possibly a throw-back to the days when a lot of them were running Pintos, BDAs, Kent X-flows and Zetecs. One rear-end and gearbox means only one lot of mounts and tailshafts etc, and a adaptor plate for bellhousings isn't too hard to knock up (or just a replacement housing itself, there are plenty out there for some really weird combinations like 4G63 to a W58) Edited April 29, 2008 by Hiro Protagonist

Trev
Might as well close/delete this thread as the guy at work that was meant to be building it has left so it wont be done.
