i have a 2tg engine and I'm getting it rebuild. The cilinder walls took a beating and needs to be bored, but I'm trying to do it on a budget and i don't want to shell out the cash for bigger pistions. Also the pistons are still fresh looking and there the hi compresion 8.8 pistons. anyways i was wondering if i could take my existing 2tg head and put it onto a 2tc block (after boreing it).

it will cost you more time, money and effort to do that.

just pay $300 for 1mm oversize 3tc acl pistons, $100 to flycut and run a 3tc crank for a 2tg hybrid at 1800cc or so

rebuild + performance at a cheaper price with less time and effort.

you can do the 2tc block, but you'll have to swap the cam and cam bearing tube things and all the dohc timing gears. pretty much strip the 2tc block to bare bones and install the TG gear

yes you can put a 2tg head over the 2tc block. i think it will require you to have the 2tg piston though cause i think they are different betweehn the 2tc and the 2tg. also, you will require to turn the last 2 bearing to where the 2tc cam used to be in the block for oil presure purposes.

just look for a 3tc block to make it a 1800cc motor which you wont be disappointed.

Or, as stated by Styler, you can get the 2T-C pistons flycut so they don't hit the valves.

Personally I'll be using a 13T block, which is the same as a 3T block (different head for emissions though) with a 2T-GEU head & EFI setup & SC12.

2TG pistons have a higher crown compared to 2tc pistons, this is to make up for the extra combustion chamber volume on the 2tg head. Running a standard 2tc bottom end with the 2tg head will give you a very low compresion ratio.

You also need to block off the cam bearing oil feed in the block closest to the fly wheel (just install a new cam bearing in 180 degrees to cover up the oil feed hole in the cam tunnel) as the 2tg dummy cam used to run the oil pump, distributor etc is shorter than the 2tc cam. Failiure to do this mod means your new engine will suffer major oil pressure issues as all the oil feeding the main bearings gets sprayed out of the now unused cam bearing oil supply hole in the cam bearing tunnel.

Incidentally, I have read that you can used a late model 2tc block with a 3tc crank to get an 1800cc 3tg motor but you may have to clearance the bottom of the cylinder bores to clear the edge of the con rod bolts.
