Falken_KE30 Posted August 25, 2008 Report Posted August 25, 2008 Just wondering if all the windscreens in the KE30 and 55 series are same? I got a KE30 2 door, just wondering if maybe a KE35 one, or maybe a 55 4 door windscreen would fit Cheers :no2: Quote
JiP Posted August 25, 2008 Report Posted August 25, 2008 The KE30, KE36, KE38 and KE55e windscreens are the same. I'm not sure about the KE35, KE55s and KE55p's. So any 4 door screen will fit. Quote
Falken_KE30 Posted August 25, 2008 Author Report Posted August 25, 2008 Ok, cause i have a stone chip right in front of the drivers view... and ive been told a chip can't be within the area the windcreen wipers cover to pass for a Road worthy ... though I'm going to ring about that tommorow.. Quote
JiP Posted August 25, 2008 Report Posted August 25, 2008 Yeah, I have one too. Smeggin trucks!! You might need a rubber too unless yours is good and ya smash ur current screen. Quote
Falken_KE30 Posted August 25, 2008 Author Report Posted August 25, 2008 i got mine while towing it home... prolly was Truck. ohwell Whats the best way to smash a screen without getting it everywhere? and when i get a new one put in, what do ya do about chrome bits around the rubber? last time i pulled one of them out it curled itself up.. ca18rolla Posted August 25, 2008 Report Posted August 25, 2008 I hate the chrome trim i brought a plain black rubber locking strip that pushes in think it was like $3 a metre. Looks better i believe. I got my rubbers from rare spares. Took a little bit of working as the front rubber wasn t 100% perfect Quote
JiP Posted August 25, 2008 Report Posted August 25, 2008 I think you can buy new chrome strips. Clark Rubber also sell rubbers and strips. Give them a go. As for rippin the sucker out, maybe lay a blanket/sheet down inside the car and have the vac on standy. If your in the market for a new rubber just cut the old one and remove the screen as a whole. corolla_nut Posted August 25, 2008 Report Posted August 25, 2008 a business called scott's auto rubbers also sells them. you can find him on the net... Quote
Falken_KE30 Posted August 25, 2008 Author Report Posted August 25, 2008 would be better to get new rubber while I'm at it i reckon... thanks for the help guys, Quote
Taz_Rx Posted August 26, 2008 Report Posted August 26, 2008 As jip mentioned above, you can use the same rubber not worries at all. It pushes over the edge of the glass and then drops into place. The chrome strip then jams it in. DO NOT SMASH THE WINDSCREEN TO GET IT OUT, you only make a mess!! Remove the shrome strips, then with the assistance of a mate sit in the front seats (wound back), and use you feet to push it out. Try and spead the force evenly across the glass. It may crack, but keep pushing and you might be amazed at how easy it comes out. :no2: Quote
styler Posted August 26, 2008 Report Posted August 26, 2008 yeah no need to smash it and make a mess, use a knife to cut the old seal out and get inside and push out with your feet as evenly as you can. Quote
Falken_KE30 Posted August 26, 2008 Author Report Posted August 26, 2008 got quoted $280 for a new windscreen that includes labour and they reuse my seal.. Quote
COROLLAANDY Posted August 26, 2008 Report Posted August 26, 2008 You should be able to score a new screen for about $200 fitted. Keep ringing around. Coupe screens are slightly wider than sedans and wont fit. By wider I mean higher! Screen rubbers can cost as much as the glass new. I've got an as new rubber you can have for $45 plus post. PM me or call 0411 327460 if interested. Quote
Falken_KE30 Posted August 27, 2008 Author Report Posted August 27, 2008 the rubber ive got is really good, so i don't see why i would need a new one, but thanks Andy. Yeah i will ring around, but I'm 45mins out of a majour town. so even if i get one for say $220 fitted in town, ill have to factor in Fuel and Trailer hire as the rolla is unregisted. Quote
Taz_Rx Posted August 27, 2008 Report Posted August 27, 2008 As the rolla screen is pretty easy to do, you mind be able to find somebody to come to you to do it. :no2: Had had to replace a crack screen in one of my cars. Cost me $20 for second hand glass, then $50 to have it fitted by a professional. Quote
