id recommend you check out different types of pumps and regulators as well as brands and specific models,

it can make a big difference and some types/brands/models are notorious for pressure and flow problems

and sometimes pulsating.

so "blackrolla" is yours the 4-7 psi one?? and do you run a regulator??

wouldn't have a clue.

i didn't think the facet pumps came in different strengths.

but honestly i doubt you need a regulator.

but as coln72 said hide them away or mount on something rubber cos they a fn noisy!

do i need a pickup pump aswell?

also should i place the pump in my boot or similar, or does it need to be up near the engine bay?

you won't need that as long as you aren't going efi

and it doesn't matter where you put it

Ended up being under the boot floor on rubber mounts (the racers was solid mounted). You could still hear it but not too bad. Did that because it was easy to join up to the rubber hoses that come through the floor near the diff. No need for a regulator.

The roadies was hooked up to ignition on, don't think a relay was used. The racer was operated via a switch on the dash and was wired up through the oil pressure sender so if it lost oil pressure the pump would stop :sob:

With a facet there is no need for a primary pump. I found that I needed a primary pump when I had a holley red pump fitted. pump would stop pumpin if it got an air in the lines.

Pump placement can make a hell of a difference depending on what pump you use.

As Coln72 has just illuded to, some pumps like Holley's are not self priming. This means they can push well, but not suck.

The easiest way around this is to mount a 'non self-priming' pump below the level of the bottom of the tank. The pump may still need priming when you first install it, but it will then be gravity fed by the tank. If you ran out of fuel you may need to prime it again.

Obviously for the reasons you couldn't mount a Holley in the engine bay....unless you ONLY drove DOWN hills! :hmm:

Other pumps like Carters and Facets are self priming. This means they can suck as well as they push, and can be basically mounted anywhere.

Look, in terms of regulators you should really have one. FFS, for carby cars they're like $30-40 BRAND NEW!!!

Irregular fuel pressure and flow (without a reg) can cause major tuning issues throughout the rev range, and would be bloody hard to identify the problem. Install a regulator and just know its all good. :sob:

As far as regulators go I never had any issues not running one, either with tuning or reliability, with a facet in 15 years.

My Holley pump was in the engine bay :sob: as I could not fit the thing under the car. It was freaking huge, but could almost pour fuel straight into the carbies from the drivers strut tower when it was turned on without the fuel hose attatched.
