Can a toyota factory ECU for a 4AFE be re--mapped?

 

if yes what approx cost will it be and where could I get it done

no, it may be possible to rechip a toyota ecu but I can't see it happening

piggyback ecu may be the next step and then its full aftermarket

Just to liven this thread up again, so we decided a factory ECU couldn't be re-mapped? A piggy back computer would be another word for a backup computer would it? And I guess depending on the computer you could select different tunes etc???

well I don't know much about this so I could be wrong with what I am about to say...

 

Unlike Nissan ECU's the toyota ECU's don't use a rewiteable EPROM based main processor chip. The chip can't be altered and therefore the original chip needs to be either bypassed or removed and replaced with a new one

Yeah its basically like changing the memcal in a commodore.

Would be keen to know what people are running in the cars.. as i have a stock 4agze n would like to play wiht the computer a bit.. what is a good brand piggy back computer?

being blunt why don't you just get an aftermarket ecu? might be cheaper for you in the long run. There was a wolf on here real cheap a while back and aftermarket ecu's with looms go cheap on ebay
