So I went to put in my 46.5mm welsh plug that I got from Sprints. Damn bastards gave me the wrong one, so I rang them and they said "nah we've never sold one that size"

 

No kidding.

 

Has anyone else had the same issues getting hold of a new one of these welsh plugs? Only Toyota can get one, they're not sure which is which so I just got them to order both back ones......

 

Now I have an unknown period to wait and it will hold up the engine install! I fly back to work monday so it'll be another 3 weeks before I get the damn car going....

The one at the back of the camshaft. The others are 35 and 45mm, most of the "experts" at the parts joints keep telling me it must be imperial!

 

I can't believe how hard it's been. Sprints, Motormate, Coventry (2 different stores including Norwood Raven), Repco and Supergay all give me the same story, they only carry standard 5mm increment sizes.

 

In the end I bashed one out of an old block and its in good condition and fits snugly so I'm taking a gamble. Its not under pressure like the others so I should be alright.

give JH southcott indutries a call they have two places one at richmond and one out at wingfield. my brother got all his new welsh plugs for his 4k from there when he got them to do some work for his rebuilt engine. lots of help and good service out there and the guys know what there talkin about.

weird, my engine builder dudes had no troubles getting them in

 

when you tap in the replacement plug, seal it with something. epoxy or metal epoxy should do it, just a very light smear on the outside rim

Try asking for a 1 7/8 welsh plug you need to spoon feed some of the spare parts people.

Had a look at all the welsh plugs on the 4k i have in the shed. was rebuilt before i got it with new plugs in it. all of them have the size stamped into them apart from the cam welsh plug :yes:

1 7/8 is 47.625mm, thats definitely too big.

 

Doesn't matter, I got the old one to fit nicely. Incidentally Cornes Toyota called and said the new item arrived, but by then the box was on and ready to drop into the car.
