4agte Engine Into A St141 Corona

Featured Replies

Hey all, I'm new to the site, just signed in a few moments ago..

i have been doing alot of reading from this site in the last couple of weeks and it seems to be very informative, techincal and enjoyable.

Now, i will get right to the point:

Does any one know what needs to be modified to a corona st141 '84 model 5-speed, to fit a 4age engine which i wolud like to turbo intercool?

Thanks. has helped me alot so far. i didnt know about the cross members. was just going weld new engine mounts in place on the corona one.

what gear box do you recommend? and will it fit without too much stuffing around?

cheers

Question: Why a 4A? If your Corona already comes with an S motor of some sort, why not stick with an S engine? A 3SGE perhaps? Or a 3SGTE? Personally, I think the 4A would be a bit too small for a Corona. As popular as it is, and as good as it can be, it's still a 1.6L engine...

2L 4cyl

if you've got money to burn a 1jz conversion would be ultimate

what about a 3tgte? i don't really have alot of $ but where there is a will there is a way!!

whats a 1jz?

is a 3sgte the same as the 3tgte? if not what is the difference?

either way i just want something that i can slap a nice turbo on and do lots a burnouts!!!

3T-GTE and 3S-GTE are completely different. 3T is 1.8 litres, DOHC 8 valve compared to 3S which is 2 litres DOHC 16 valves. 3T is alot older than the 3S. 3S are good for some big HP numbers...but still have a cast iron (yick) block (hugs all alloy engine). 1JZ-GTE is a 2.5 litre 6 cylinder engine...usually twin turbo.

If you don't have alot of money I can't really see any of these happening.

Soarer 1JZ-GTE frontcut is around $4500

Celica 3S-GE (non turbo and FWD) is around $2500

SR20DET (nissan equivalent of the 3S-GTE with the added plus of an all alloy engine) frontcuts are going for around $3000-4000 for the non VVT version.

Skip the 3T because I doubt you'll find one and you'll have problems getting parts.

thanks for that, that clears up alot of questions which i was going to ask.

The front cut of a celica with a 3sge sounds like a good option. what about the conversion to rear wheel drive? will it be neck breaking or not to bad? i have the equipment to do it, just need to know whats involved.

cheers guys i appreciate it.

You forgot to mention the 3T-GTE is twinspark..

personally i think if you already have a S series crossmember go the 3SGTE, less mucking about..

3T you'll never get engineered in your car anyway, it's too old. 3S, I think you can re-use your gearbox and just about everything you already have. 3SGE's and 3SGTE's also came in other cars, and even come in the current Altezza. Rather nice engine, but yes, you do pay for what you get.

Definitely go a 3SGE or a 3SGTE. A FWD 3SGE (just the engine, no ancilliaries) can be picked up from about $750. A 3SGTE (just the engine, from an ST165/184 Celica) can be picked up from about $1850. This resulted from just a quick check on some engine dismantlers' sites. For RWD, I'd use a W-series transmission. The XT130/ST131 Corona was available with a W50 transmission, which would be enough until you upgrade the engine in the future. Something like a W58 would bolt on (I think). It would DEFINITELY handle way more power, as it is a 5-speed Supra transmission. One of the many other benefits of the 3SGE/3SGTE over the 4AGE/4AGZE/4AGTE would be the number of parts available for getting huge power out of it. There are obviously plenty of parts available to make 4AGE's quicker, but this is usually for higher revving motors, usually for use in lighter cars such as Corollas and Clubmans. The 3SGE or 3SGTE would have better power, not to mention torque, for a car the size of the Corona, even if you did turn it into a bit of a high revving beast. I would think the 3SGTE would be the better option for you, as even though you pay a bit more for the initial motor, the power it can make is quite huge (up to about 500+hp), plus you don't really need to do anything to it to go fast, as you already will be. :S

haha there's a corona up the coast with a worked original 2S in it

well the 3sgte definately sounds like the best option especially if i don't have to change much.

thanks heaps for everyones help. i will keep you posted on the progress.

cheers
