and check to see if head gasket is blown....

how will i know if the gasket is blown ?

it doesn't over heat.

or blow smoke

and the problems only happen every now and again

a few of my mates think it might be the carby.

i noticed when i undid the carby and checked the filter

under neath it on the meatal part of the filter

there was some oil residue is this normal?

Shouldn't be head gasket with those symptoms, head gasket problems happen every day at startup usually.

Once you've got over the flux capacitor, check the electrics as it sounds like the lowering process knocked a wire loose somewhere, and probably to do with the coil or earth return. Poor power flow would give you a misfire and also kill the engine with the lights.

What other problems have shown up??

Oil in the air filter comes from the tappet cover vent and is quite normal.

Make sure you let us know what it was when you solve it!

ignore them .. they think they're in an 80's movie :P

Flux capacitor my arse, next you'll be telling me the frange spigot is in need of a light oiling ...

It's highly unlikely that the fact that your car is now lower has anything to do with this.

Maybe you knocked/hit/crimped or broke something in the process though, so I'd be checking things around where you were working.

When you say lowered: front? back? new springs? chopped springs? what sort of car?

Standard approach when things like this happen:

newest thing i noticed was yesterday when i turned the lights the idle dropped dramatically

is to check everything electrical starting with things you are most likely to have been working around.

check all your distributor leads.

check all your battery connections.

check all your alternator connections.

check all your earth straps.

check the fuel pump.

check all the air hoses.

my bet is on a slow and steady diagnosis for this one ... lowering a car shouldn't make the engine experience problems

cheers,

Slapper

yeh well the springs have been chopped

and my friends cut a hole in the exhaust to make it louder

although it sounds cool now i spoke to a few people from across the road

and they said it sounds like its missing when i just had it

idling the car has abit of a shake to it now also

there is a tapping sound which seems to me to be a leak

in the manifold i don't really know that much about my car

is there anyone in the gold coast area that would be able to take a look for me?
