seabiscuit Posted March 9, 2009 Report Posted March 9, 2009 I'm looking at getting a couple of things freighted/couriered to my doorstep within the next few days/weeks. I'll be getting a towbar from a member here and a set of 14x7 tyreless rims from eBay. Would anyone recommend a good company to use for price and reliability? I don't care if the towbar gets dropped or anything, but don't want my rims getting damaged and I've heard that there are a few shockers out there. Vince Quote
Jason KE30 Posted March 9, 2009 Report Posted March 9, 2009 You should just use the same company that i'm sendin your grille over with. Couriers Please, it's who we use for work, and for the amount of rare car stuff we get that isn't busted up it's pretty good. Quote
7shades Posted March 9, 2009 Report Posted March 9, 2009 I have business accounts with a couple of Major carriers these days, as they're the cheapest.... but... for a private induvidual, I recommend Smartsend... www.smartsend.com.au Cheapest quotes every time. Quote

seabiscuit Posted March 9, 2009 Author Report Posted March 9, 2009 Smart Send has an easy quote system! Anyone ever weighed a 14x7 rim? Guess? Quote
Jason KE30 Posted March 9, 2009 Report Posted March 9, 2009 um... i think they are about 6-7 kilos someone might be able to correct me on that though Quote
kangaroosa Posted March 9, 2009 Report Posted March 9, 2009 TasFreight gave me the cheapest quotes and it was hassle free. Quote
7shades Posted March 9, 2009 Report Posted March 9, 2009 Reliable? They're more like a forwarder, so they use whatever company is the cheapest or most convenient for your job... but they use reputable companies and I've never had an issue. I've freighted entire engines from Cairns to Adelaide before, wheels, gearboxes.... no breakages or items lost. Quote

LittleRedSpirit Posted March 9, 2009 Report Posted March 9, 2009 I always use Greyhound freight. Pretty cheap, gentle on goods but the catch is if you want it cheap then you have to collect it from the local depot. They pass thru most major towns and cities and some not so major, so they have pretty good coverage. Ive shipped to WA with them before from QLD with no problems. Quote
towe001 Posted March 9, 2009 Report Posted March 9, 2009 Couple of things - just be on the safe side with breakables - clearly mark in red nikko, paint pen, etc "FRAGILE" and package well - even knowing that the company is reputable, its more or less the driver themselves who'll be dealing with the item/s. In saying that some take care while others are just plainly carefree. - and on the note of fragile goods i've seen tv's bundled in with big heavy unbreakable stuff. In turn, that, in a way, falls onto the driver in taking care of what he/she is carrying. - but also note, is that most of the companies just ask for weight, size, pallet/carton, dangerous goods and destination and not much else like what the contents are.... seabiscuit Posted March 9, 2009 Author Report Posted March 9, 2009 How CHEAP are you talking compared to on-your-door, LittleRedSpirit? I'd rather save a buck and pick it up at the depot! Quote
philbey Posted March 11, 2009 Report Posted March 11, 2009 I used Greyhound once to ship a wakeboard had a fairly stressful moment picking it up from the depot. I wouldn't use them again. I had some speakers shipped by a courier that gave discount for Ebay items, you just had to put the Item Number in the website when you got the shipping quote! They were great but I forget who it was, anyone know? Quote
