seabiscuit Posted April 29, 2009 Report Posted April 29, 2009 (edited) :P "How To Build A Tough "K" Motor" The "Frequently Asked Questions/Knowledge Base" Should be able to help you out a little. There are no 3k-b "dealers" around as they are a 40-year-old engine. The twin carbs are just a factory item and aren't really better than aftermarket options such as the popular Weber or Dellorto carburettors. The "b" stands for Bigport Head, which means the ports are just a little bigger than standard ports - again, which is a 40-year-old design. Basically it's the exact same as any other 3k motor, but with a bigport head and 2 carburettors. If you wish to turn your KE55 into a drift pig, I suggest you stick with your 4k (if that's what's in it), which are decently better than a 3k motor - or even upgrade to a 5k motor and then do a bolt-on carburettor setup and mild porting job on the head which will give much better results than a 3k-b as I highly doubt that you will be able to do any decent drifting with a 1.1L 40-year-old engine (and barely with the 4k or 5k) Good luck Edited April 29, 2009 by seabiscuit Quote
Medicine_Man Posted April 29, 2009 Report Posted April 29, 2009 spend your money on anything other than a 3k.. Quote
KE55PIG Posted April 29, 2009 Author Report Posted April 29, 2009 ok well i noticed they make like 18 more hp thought it my be the way to go if i can get one cheap even if just get the hea cleaned up and ported and use the 4k and twin carbs ontop of me 4k ? ive read all that three times over but i just thought getting this twin car motor will be way cheaper then other carbs and stuff. my 55 would be pretty light i reckon no sound deadning or interior or bumpers left on it just 2 front seats Quote
KE55PIG Posted April 29, 2009 Author Report Posted April 29, 2009 what I'm saying i can get my hand on 3k-b which has been rebuilt bout 30k ago has a mid range cam and twin carbs and stuf this has more toque then a 4k so wouldnt i be better or getin if for say 200 bucks then? or would i b better/cheaper buyin a decent carb for mine and getting a cam Quote
Felix Posted April 29, 2009 Report Posted April 29, 2009 If you can buy it for $200 go for it. A 4k with similar mods is going to be quicker, due to more torque. In a porky arsed ke55, you would be better off going with forced induction, or putting your money towards a conversion with something like a 2/3T or 4age. Quote
KE55PIG Posted April 29, 2009 Author Report Posted April 29, 2009 thats ok to say that but i don't have the money to go forced. my idea is to go the 3k head get it ported and just cleaned up and get the head surfaced. and carbs rebuilt ? with my 4k bottom end and find or buy a nice cam for it with some extractors exaust. will this be enough to get my wheels to turn with a full spool and a very stif and lightchassis Quote

More power, more torque and you're effectively not trying to polish a turd!!! :P Quote
KE55PIG Posted April 30, 2009 Author Report Posted April 30, 2009 new idea 3k head and carbs wid 5k bottom end cam extractors. i think it wil be fine the 4 k made the wheels spin so i think illbe fine if not i gjust embaras the fuk out of my self out at drift prac Quote
snot35 Posted April 30, 2009 Report Posted April 30, 2009 Buy the 3KB and then transplant the cam and head/carbs onto a 4K. More capacity, instant porting and higher compression. Should go pretty well. Quote

Boost+k Posted April 30, 2009 Report Posted April 30, 2009 don't waste your time/money, i did abit of drifting with a 5k turbo in my ke70 wagon and by the end of the day your just pissed off because it wont do what you want/need it to, all good for a clutch kick around a corner to get some slide action but no good for switching and holding drifts, in the wet its a differant story, my car ruled in the wet, but thats just cheating in the end i ditched it and wacked a sr20det in, now i have fun all day and even have smoke lol Quote
KE55PIG Posted April 30, 2009 Author Report Posted April 30, 2009 i just don't have the money to do something like that but i think i have th mechaical tools to pull appart a motor and rebuilt one. i really just wanna get out there and give it a go and othere wise it just a waist of this ke its got flared guards and all hahah lol maybe it will be on the raining drift prac days ill go lol. i wanna do hydralic handbreak to whick would help. seabiscuit Posted April 30, 2009 Report Posted April 30, 2009 Waste of money trying to make a K motor into a drift car. You'll spend a quarter or even half of what you'd need for a 4age conversion and will be disappointed as you still won't be able to drift in the dry. Quote
