  1. so 4 years later on this topic.... the 4k was progressively getting more and more smoky over time, still reliable as ever but was requiring a liter of oil every second week to keep it happy. Yesterday when changing a couple of fuel hoses it all got a little out of hand and next minute a 5k engine that's been sitting on my front porch for years made its way in there with the electronic dizzy and all. Very noticeable increase in torque and very quiet with the hydraulic lifters.... unfortunately got too excited during a test run and lunched the clutch.
  2. Gaver her a good wash this morning, story of my life, it never rains but pours, got offered another 2 door hardtop, so once I have swapped all the parts I need on and off, it will be sold onto (hopefully) to somone that will look after her.
  3. Cheers bud, after this one is tidied up and sold on/parted out/sorted minus the few bits that are a bit rough on my ke55 there is a mx10 corona that caught my eye out there too, I think the corolla will scrub up ok apart from the windscreen and rust though, it has a good 10 years worth of rural west nsw dust on it.
  4. A friend and I went for a look at a guys farm today who had 90+ cars laying in a paddock, we went armed with cash and a car trailor intending on bringing my mate home a valiant, instead I got this. The wheels were on a liteace van nearby (unfortunately the liteace only had a 4k or I would have bought that home too...) Guy wanted $300 for the car with stock wheels, but ended up shakinghands on $250 with the mags that had brand new tyres and we were on our way. When we were looking at it I am looking and thinking "parts car", but it has a lot going for it, apart from a cracked dash the seats are great, door cards overrated, minimal rust in all the usual places, it was just parked there and left in 2003. The negative part is the massive rust bubble on the roof, this may be a deal breaker for a road going project. Anyway first ke30 I have seen with factory two tone, even has the chrome trim to go between the colours on the rear pillars. Giving it a quick cleanup tomorrow to really decide its fate, just putting it out there hoping for some inspiration to do the right thing for it rather than parting it out for my other ones.
  5. Looks pretty tidy there I hope the taillight made it to you in once piece :)
  6. Well after being only driven 3 times in the last 18 months (two of those trips was to get the yearly rwc and the third was for my wedding I decided to go for a full cleanup and put on my jellybeans, I have covered 2500km in the last month and a bit and apart from a failed ballast resistor its been flawless, i gave the motor a thourough flush as it was sludged up beyond recognition under the rocker cover when I checked the tappets and that just made it feel smoother and stronger :D One minor annoynig issue is I don't have gauges half the time, not sure why, it must be a dirty connection under the dash because if you tap it the gauges start working again,
  7. I'm pretty sure the gutters are the two edges of the side and roof panels welded together to form the gutter.
  8. I took most of these in melbourne many years ago, I rescued the brown ke26 from the same paddock and the multi coloured ke20 was wasting away for years in my dads yard before it went for spares. The boot on the green ke20 crumpled and wanted to fold like cardboard, as did the bonnet, I pulled the rear window from it and the lights. The brown one wasnt as bad, it could have been a neat car apart from the rust The teal one was pretty nice, from memory the only thing wrong with it was the gearbox, can't remember who owned them it was a bloke on the oldcorollas yahoo group.
  9. Went to dads today and pinched some parts from my first ke30 that we still had parts laying around from. Now has unfaded taillights and I pinched a fuel gauge sender as the one in it is all over the place. :) Is a great little car to drive to work buzzes along nicely, I did have one of the factory fuel hoses spring a leak but it was only just down the road from home so was easily replaced.
  10. Nice clean ke70 there, is there a 7k in the townace in the background? ;)
  11. thanks gav, gave the ol girl a very quick wash this morning to get the dust off, got out of bed a bit late to do a full wax. Will be driving it to work today so I wanted it clean :)
  12. Just picked this old girl up from its original owner, I saw it forsale on a facebook buy swap sell group and it screamed "BUY ME", I had been eyeing it off for years going around town. it has 177000km on the clock, very minor rust in the rear arches, a small hit to the rear and thin paint on the bonnet otherwise the interior is perfect and the paint apart from the bonnet will come up very good with a wax. Even the dash pad is great (this is rare out here in the country as the horrible summers get to it. The little 4k needs a rocker cover gasket and maybe o rings on the spark plug tubes but otherwise the engine is going to stay 100% stock. the rest of the car is going to remain stock, I am even going to leave the 80's era alarm fitted to it. Very happy with my purchase at only $1k. Only have crappy photos that the dude selling it for the old lady took. They don't do the quality of it justice but ill attach them now and add new ones tomorrow after a wax. As with my 2 door ke55 this car will remain unmolested and just improved back to factory standard over time.
  13. I had a 3k-u in my old ke30, it had some wierd air injection setup on it as well. Think I ended up sending that one for scrap.
  14. Well... long time and no progress to recently, Replaced all rear suspension bushes, sprayed the rear wheel arches in underbody black, fitted up my polished 5 slotters to the rear. Ordered today..... (my partner is going to kill me for my small shopping spree) Boge front shock absorbers $164 polyurethane sway bar bushes $70 front brake pads $50 24x oil filters (hey they were $55 all up including post on ebay....) Going to replace all fuel lines and clamps, put on front 5 slotters when everything for the front end is here, also got a new PBR brake master cyl from ebay for $20. After this is done only 2 things MAY fail me on blue slip which are windscreen is sandblasted after 370000km pretty bad, and there is a hole in the carpet. will back it out in a bit and take some pics. The ole girl is now living under a car cover even though it was parked in my carport, I am sick of people asking if its forsale, funny the look people give you when you tell them your not interested in selling before they even tell you a price.
  15. Going back 4 years now I had an 'ol XF falcon ute. I never left town with it, just always cruised about our country town with it til the day my partner ended up in hospital in wagga wagga 130km away. I finished work at approximately 10am, thought to myself "fill er up and she will be right..." Drove to the servo, filled up, went to dads and grabbed a few milk bottles full of water and a bottle of oil and off I set. 20km out of town she started to get a little warmer than usual, thought " its cool, its never done 100km.h since I have bought it, only 50k's around town. 25km out of town BANG, steam all up the side of the ute. Filled the old girl up with water, at this point I had quite obviously blown the headgasket so I fitted the rad cap loosely and carried on. Made it to wagga no worries, filled up with water again before I left. about 35km out of wagga she boiled like a mofo, I filled it up but it wouldnt stop boiling so I carried on for the last 85 odd km with no water at all, the heater stopped, tappets got noisy but we made it without a drama. Even on the next morning it started right up and I took it to work, I drove it for months around town with the gasket still blown. Once it ran out of rego, I sold it to some young fella for $100, exactly what I payed for it some 9 months beforehand.

  17. Need to be raised to the sky with fat white sunraysia wheels :lolcry:
  18. No but you were having a cry about people asking for proper grammar, a lot of posts along those lines also have piss poor spelling.
  19. While there are some real nazis about with spelling, grammar, etc. I don't appreaciate reading "sms talk" or a big block of writing with no grammar.
  20. Well not a lot has been happening with this lately, unfortunately i can't justify registering a 3rd car so its been sitting in the carport for a while. I start it every couple of weeks and run the air con, etc up for a good half hour or so.. I got invited to join a local car club which then I would be able to get club rego on it but we will see how that goes, would be nice to go on their cruise once a month....
  21. looks almost identical to mine! Nice find, there are getting fewer and fewer of these on the ground now a days...
  22. My "parts of a car" ke30, I think it may define analy raped.
  23. I love the smell of my ke55 when it gets taken out on the local clubs monthly cruise, it has time to build up for 4 weeks because most of the time it is locked up in the carport.
  24. Just make sure you take the spacer plate that goes between the block and fuel pump with you. Otherwise you will break the arm on the pump in no time!
  25. Quite honestly I would try to ditch the ecotec option, and run with a vn-vp buick v6 if you were going to go ahead with the conversion. Reason being you need a modified ECU to run the ecotec motor without the body control module and the immobiliser circuitry. The modified computer can be found on ebay though. That was the basis of my choice of motor when I converted a VH to a 3.8l 6. bit of cut and shut on the loom and carefully reading both the vh and vn wiring diagrams we got a setup that worked....
