bronxrunner1 Posted July 12, 2009 Report Posted July 12, 2009 (edited) Hello to all members. I'm new to the site and club. I recently purchased an 81 corolla coupe and I want to begin a v8 conversion and was wondering if any one here can tell me where to begin, any ideas and or problems I will occur and any resolutions to them. I kno there will be alot of fabrication on my part but I'm hoping some here has been there and done that and can help me out here. Thanks Edited July 12, 2009 by bronxrunner1 Quote
Taz_Rx Posted July 13, 2009 Report Posted July 13, 2009 Have you checked the legalities of the conversion in your state...... if its for a road going car? Quote
bronxrunner1 Posted July 14, 2009 Author Report Posted July 14, 2009 Have you checked the legalities of the conversion in your state...... if its for a road going car? well in the state that I'm in there is no emissions for a car that old but the car will be for the street and track Quote
Redwarf Posted July 14, 2009 Report Posted July 14, 2009 (edited) .... and which state would that be? I'm assuming you're in the States? Edited July 14, 2009 by Redwarf Quote
irokin Posted July 14, 2009 Report Posted July 14, 2009 I think we can rule out California then but judging by his name I'm guessing New York State/New Jersey/Connecticut/etc Quote
rob83ke70 Posted July 15, 2009 Report Posted July 15, 2009 You should put a 2gr-fe 200kw aurion v6 converted to rwd in your rolla.... all toyota  Robert. Quote

LittleRedSpirit Posted July 16, 2009 Report Posted July 16, 2009 very gd originally from ny, now in ct Pics of the 81 coupe will be required. Just cause I want to see it mainly... Id say it will fit. You may have to mod the firewall and most likely the front tranny tunnel area also. It all depends on which gearbox and engine combo you use. Chev, Toyota, Nissan, Ford, theres probably like 6 more in the US I can't be bothered considering. One side will have issues with the heads or exhaust going close to the steering. Sump might need work, just the usual stuff. Theres only one way to find out. id be selecting the lightest v8 i could get, perhaps an LS1 or 1UZ. A v6 would be great, one of the new all alloy GR v6 motors would go almost as hard and weigh far less on the front wheels. Quote

ke303800 Posted July 22, 2009 Report Posted July 22, 2009 a friend of mine fitted a holden v8 and trimatic to a ke55 without any mods to firewall or tunnel and a small block chev would fit even better not sure about the box though as a trimatic is pretty compact as far as v8 autos go but it just depends how you want to set the car up as to weather you want to cut the firewall. check youtube as there are a few v8 corollas on there.
