Corolla KE30 Posted August 20, 2009 Report Posted August 20, 2009 Hey everyone, i was just wondering, my '75 KE30 is completely standard and i was wondering if anyone else's is standard and if so whats the maximum you can go with the car. For example, will it make it for a drive through the hills or the Great Ocean Road cruise? Also, is there any chance of damaging the engine if you drive at around 100km/h? I've only taken it up to 80km/h and i felt bad cos the 4 speed just sounds like its revving high. Even though its probably on 3000rpm, i just don't know how hard or fast to drive it. I just feel bad for driving it at 80km/h?? Anyone else like this or am i just weird? Cheers, Dion Quote
Evan G Posted August 20, 2009 Report Posted August 20, 2009 ( i was born in west croydon, gimme some street names) its a corolla, made to take a beating ive taken my ke55 to 14kph with a 3 speed trimatic.... i also got a simple speed alert, when the dash rattles like crazy your doing over 100 ;) Quote
SLO-030 Posted August 20, 2009 Report Posted August 20, 2009 As Evan has mentioned, toyota builds a good car. so don't worry about taking it over 80 or 100. When i had my KE30 with the 4k, 4spd i had it out to 140km/h (private property) These cars and engines have coped with alot of shit over the years. BUT, that being said. If you feel bad for revving out or traveling at the speed of light then its up to you how you drive. Quote
Tally Posted August 20, 2009 Report Posted August 20, 2009 I have same model car as a daily, its gutless in stock form, and the 4speed just makes it a cruiser not a race car... extra gear makes it a lot better on highways so if highways are your thing then id swap in a 5speed... I think the same as you about not thrashing it in 4th... basically I only go fast when necessary... when its 60 its 60, when its 100, its 100, simple... Quote
Corolla KE30 Posted August 20, 2009 Author Report Posted August 20, 2009 I have same model car as a daily, its gutless in stock form, and the 4speed just makes it a cruiser not a race car... extra gear makes it a lot better on highways so if highways are your thing then id swap in a 5speed... I think the same as you about not thrashing it in 4th... basically I only go fast when necessary... when its 60 its 60, when its 100, its 100, simple... I'm exactly the same as you. I'm on my P2's and i've never had a fine or anything. I'm too scared to go 5km/h over the speed limit cos knowing my luck there'd be a cop somewhere. haha. I've still never done a burnout in any car, which may come as a shock for a P plater, hehehe. My corolla is an absolute Nanna car; completely original, only 83,000k's, so there is no chance of modification or swapping the original 4 speed.. I drive a CB lancer GSR which I'm thinking of selling cos i want to drive my corolla around, and i'm only driving the Corolla to cruise in really. I just didn't know whether or not it'll make it through the hills, as i sometimes drive around with my friends through Windy Point and such, and the Lancer makes it with ease and i wasn't sure with the Corolla, as stated, it is pretty gutless, hahaa... Thankyou so much everyone for your advice. Now maybe i can go on a cruise without the fear of the Corolla dying through the hills or something..Thanks, Dion Quote
crispyke35 Posted August 20, 2009 Report Posted August 20, 2009 If it helps at all when i first bought my rolla ( 75 ke35) it had an el stocko 4k with a 4 speed. I drove the thing 8 hours straight to get it home from newcastle and the exhaust was exiting just after the manifold. i drove it highway at speed all the way back and the bloke that owned it before me drove it 110km/hr to gosford every week. I then proceeded to drive it to uni which required going up and down hills for about 60km each day of which the rolla had no issues and pulled away from my mates dato 120y with ease and kept up with other cars no probs. also it sounds as though it will explode but they smash up hills in third but i wouldn't say that it would be very good for engine longitivity. Tally Posted August 20, 2009 Report Posted August 20, 2009 ah man these engines go for 400 000 kms in some cases, just look after em and they go for ages... as long as you service it regularly u can thrash the crap out of these K engines, they are built to last, Toyota reliability at its best! Jason KE30 Posted August 21, 2009 Report Posted August 21, 2009 Personaly before you take it on a long journey i would replace all the hoses under the engine bay. Learnt my lesson when I was on my way up to Mannum and broke down in the middle of nowhere because my heater hose cracked and i lost all my coolant. Other than that, the good old k engine will never let you down, it's just the stuff attached to it that breaks ;) Quote
seabiscuit Posted August 21, 2009 Report Posted August 21, 2009 Don't be scared to put a 5 speed in! People won't ridicule it for not being "original" if that's what you're thinking. Such a simple conversion, too. Especially since yours is already 4 speed. It was WELL worth it when I changed my KE70 from a 4 speed to 5 speed. Other than that, K engines are pretty damn good. Like everyone else has said, keep it maintained well. I made the mistake of not taking good care of my 4k in my KE70 when I first got it. Didn't put in proper coolant, never did any oil changes, etc. Quote
comtoy Posted August 23, 2009 Report Posted August 23, 2009 when i had my sedan i gave it hell it started losing cylinders but kept going after 12months it went to one cylinder thats when i changed it even tho it was still running (even though it didn't idle properly) Quote
