I do have a blanking plate but that is not the issue. What you can't see is that where the blanking plate bolts on there is a big section of metal missing. That is why there is soo much silicon.

Well it wasn't the dam points that are the issue. One of two things methinks.

1. Intake manifold leak

2. Carby not correctly functioning

 

Both of which are pains in the arse to sort out.

Drilled out the mounting plate to accommodate some sort of port on the bottom of the carb.

Not sure if it had any noticeable effect. I was a bit apprehensive about spraying a flammable

liquid all around my carb considering there was a hot exhaust right underneath so I sprayed water all around the carb.

I've sprayed water around before to track down leaks and it works a treat. at this stage I think that the vacuum leak is

coming from the manifold and not around the carby.

Machine the rest of the block down to the same level?
