an engine shouldn't blow that quick regardless unless it was built wrong or has detonations. 20psi is pretty serious how much power are you and him making?

I haven't been on the rollers again since my initial tune. With the 18psi'ish I'm running now the "Bumometre" would say about 130-140rwkw. Daims would probably be pushing close to 180rwkw with the 20+psi but his hasn't been on a dyno lately either.

How much does it owe you Taz?

I'd be doing a conversion in anything later than a ke1x. Later cars all have plenty of room under the bonnet to take a bigger motor. Plus they are heavier so could do with a capacity upgrade to improve power to weight. Look at ford and their Escort, they had an optional 2L SOHC Xflow motor in the same sized car as the ke30's.

More than it could have*. I spent more on quality or "make my life easier in the future" products like the speedflow fittings, all turbosmart cooler hoses, big heavy duty hose clamps, little wanky bits etc etc. Daims build is pretty much the same quality build though. There's no way in hell I would have spend anywhere near what he did though as he also had to buy the engine itself, plus the 20V head (well to be fair I bought a 5k - $350, plus a 3kbp head - $100) itself and a few other bits. He also bought his ECU for like $1700 when mine isn't that much older and I spent $300!!!!

If I had of done a buget/quality build I would have easily gotten away with $2.5-3k

Biggest expenses were:

EFI manifold - $250

ECU - $300

Turbo manifold - $700

Cooler and piping - $400

Turbo - $250

+ the usual nick-nacks.

Yep. I did score a bargain though.... right place,..... right time. I'd been helping a guy with his turbo'd A12 at the time so he sold it to me cheap to say thanks.

Wolf 3d V4, was a few years old but still un-used, in a box with sensors, laptop cables, hand controller, memory cartridge and a brand new un-touched full loom!!!

I think the 4AGE costs a lot more than most people post up here... No-one seems to keep an itemised list of exactly what it cost them, but I'd expect no change out of four or five grand.

That's a good point, I think people don't realise how much they are spending on the little things here and there. When I got my 20v installed it was all done by my mechanic (drove in with a 4ac, drove out 20v with everything thats on it now). The bill was... quite large. My mechanic is pretty meticulous so I can see pretty much where every dollar went. Even for the parts alone it was a lot more expensive than people would initially think (not cause he has overcharged me, just the shear number of little things).

well I disagree, sure if you pay a mechanic it's going to sting you bad regardless but if you do things yourself then it shouldn't. Twice in the last few months I have seen RWD converted 20V engines with full aftermarket ecu's and looms with a tune for sale as a package for $2000, I think one even had trumpets. All you would need is some intake socks, install the wiring loom and get the exhaust made. Thats it! Play your cars right and it can be really cheap. If you pay a mechanic to do all your work then I suggest a different model car altogether unless your really into it.

I am with sam on this one, even my rwd carbied 4age, it didn't cost me anymore then 3k to do and that was with 1000 bucks worth of brand new toyota jdm parts, 45mm webers, intake manifold, rwd underdrive pulleys and ignition system.

Also if you read his thread the engine is quite substantially modified, I dunno why people compare stock engines to modded ones, do all the same things to a bigport 4age and the K motor won't stand a chance and remember back in the BTCC days the bigport 4age's used to make <200hp in N/A form.
