A worked 4K would be fun, can't really get more than 100hp out of a 4K apparently, unless you're really gnarly. So it's up to you, is 100hp good enough performance? If not then 4AGE is the go.

How much money do you have?

not a great amount. but i already a spare 4kc so i though that might be a start

having had a few k series engines before going 4age in my ride... in my opinion just go the 4age... money spent on the k engine better off going towards the 4age conversion....

another option which is more straight forward than the 4age option would be 5k which would be a better basis to modify than the 4k.....

You'll put $2000 into the 4K to get carbs/cam/compression/exhaust and produce fifty-something KW, maybe the 60KW end of it.

Cheap but unspectacular.

It wouldn't cost any more to do the same to the 5K really, so if there's a cheap 5K somewhere go for it.

I think the 4AGE costs a lot more than most people post up here... No-one seems to keep an itemised list of exactly what it cost them, but I'd expect no change out of four or five grand.

Agreed.

4AGE - Atleast $4k to do it properly. 100kw 4A will give you maybe 60-70rwkw

Worked 5k (lets take something like Philbeys for arguments sake) $2'ish...... and it has 70rwkw.

:)

And which setup requires more work to get done!

is this natraully asperated if so what sort of work has been done ??

that peak power though, what about everywhere else, I bet if you compare one power curve against the other the K engine would look very sad indeed. Also it would never be as free revving and as good on fuel. Another thing is that on a generous dyno?

it's much more logical to post the small amount of information I ask for here instead of each person on this thread individually looking it up.

Here's a link to the aforementioned 5K: http://www.rollaclub.com/board/index.php?s...4692&st=105

P.S. the search function is really handy (top right corner of the page if you haven't found it yet)

Look at your post count mate. Thats not very nice. Its not like sam is new here and needs your cheeky 'help'.

Flaming long standing members that make real technical contributions wherever possible is not very smart.

If you can contribute please do so, if you wanna start arguments, you will have no future here, ok.

On topic I say 4age. Ks are cool but really only capable of being impressive if boosted, tuned within an inch of their life, or installed in a light car.

Whoah, I'm sorry guys I wasn't trying to be offensive or a smart arse or anything, I was replying to Corey's inquiry about the 5k, and just giving him a pointer to let him know he can search this kind of thing, I wasn't making a smart aleck reply to Sam's post. I really should have stated who I was talking to though. I'm sorry, I had no intention of flaming anyone.

thanks Matt,

another thing I forgot to mention is I would think that the engine life of a K engine boosted to 4age type top end power will also be under a fair fit of load and hence have a faily high wear rate. Open to correction on all my points of course.

Maybe you should compare my build to Daim's turbo 20v then Sam. Noticed you've been in his AE86 thread lately.

Both motors were built around the same time, similar sort of mods (including turbo's on originally NA motors), and both have run in the 20+psi range. In the last 2 years he's now blown 2x motors. I've blown nothing more than a manifold gasket or two...... oh and a cooler pipe!!! :y: :P
