hi guys i am now a proud owner of a corolla ke55 motor 5 speed manual and going 2 use it for karnaccross and off road racing and just wanna kno a few things

 

best optimum performance exhaust size also extractors??

what type of oil do i use

head lights i want to upgrade them for night rally wats the bulb type h4????

air filter is their a better way to get air to the carby bonnet scoop???

Hi brad and welcome ,I'm not sure what you mean by off road but if its going to be a club car .I would suggest first make it safe ,proper seat and harness to start with.

 

Depending if your going to rally it proper or just club events.

 

Bolt in cage from bonds are about 1500.

 

Once you have that done make it handle,then worry about engine last.There is more time to be made with good handling car than big power.{in club events anyway}

 

The mighty 4k is a great motor to mod easy as ,exhaust 2inch ,oil no great preferance just do it regular,lights h4s,bonnet scoop don't worry about it .

 

Flip the lid on air cleaner ,does sfa but sounds cool :hmm: A lot of good info on here and good blokes just do you home work and I'm sure youll get heaps of help.

 

Have a good read of faq s heaps of info .

Yeah, look at a set of extractors (4-2-1's for mid range torque) and a 2" exhaust as a max size. You can extend the snorkel of the aircleaner out past the radiator support panel to pick up cool air.

 

Dunno about the roll cage, khanacrosses don't require it and it is extra weight to lug around. Can fit one anytime you want to progress further. Strip as much weight out as you can.

 

Basically, read your event/club/organisations rules and build to those. You can stretch/interpret and be creative but don't do anything you can not change back easily if you do decide to stretch the rules a bit......

yeh true how much does extractor cost also some rally tyres???

i have a event this sunday 1st time.

wouldnt stress about rally tyres, could win my class and place outright on road tyres. In fact on day, I was one of the few that didn't get bogged.

 

Extractors anything from $0 through to as much as you want to spend for custom jobbies.

 

Being a KE55, I guess it is like the earlier ones where you unscrew the knob from your handbrake lever to disable the rachet. Makes handbrakies so much easier :P

 

 

A big tip, only make one change at a time. That way you know what works and what doesnt and don't change much (except for tyre pressures) until you get used to the car and what it does.

Most dimmer pots for the dash lights are a bit dodgy these days. Give it a turn both ways and see if you can get them to come back on.

 

Speedo sounds weird! :( If the cable had snapped/come out of the back of the cluster/out of GB then it should only be reading 0kmh! Sounds like something inside the guage has jammed up.

Weight from the front to the boot is good, like the battery!

 

A bit more camber on the front if you can find longer lower control arms to fit, like the Corona ones widen a KE70. Also more castor that you would use on the road to give it 'turn-in' bite.

 

I'm not familiar with the KE55 setup, but those round aircleaner housings add a lot of drag being too close to the filter itself. Cut the sides out of the housing and if that improves the power then make a larger airbox with a cold air intake. Are you allowed a bonnet scoop straight down onto it?

 

Convert the headlights to run through relays if they are wired like KE70s. The '70 earths back through the dip switch and are pathetically dim compared to using relays to earth down through the light bulbs. Then you would use that system to power your spots.

hi all just went for a fang down the padok with the rolla make a loud bang sound and cheaked under the bonnet and the stut tops and eroding away peeling apart and cracking from botoming it out 2 much :) does any 1 kno what other struts that have parts avalable will fit straight in ???

Round or rectangle headlight version ?

From memory the ke55 used a sealed headlight. But you can get the semi-sealed from either the local auto shop or off ebay.

The rounds lights are 7in diameter. Not sure what the rectangle lights are.

But the semi-sealed lights use the H4 bulbs.

 

Another good thing to do is also upgrade the grounding cable that goes from the engine to the car body.

 

Strut tops - as in what holds the top of the spring in place ? Another '55 or ones from the ke3x range.

If your bottoming the struts out, it might be a good idea to invest in some rubber bump stops or upgrade the struts to something better.
