does anyone know of a company that does off shelf 1st 2nd 3rd straight cut dog gears? i can only find someone who will do custom ones to suit at over $8000 instaled.

Pfitzners, Albins, although I don't think they'll be "off the shelf". They're the ones that come to mind. Ain't going to be cheap. $2K to $3K just for the gears if you're going to put them in yourself.

the main reason is reliability i am building the car the right way straight up so all i then have to do is maintain it and drive it hard!! hopefully with breakages

That just confirms to me that you've never driven a car with said gearbox. Save your money and either get a decent rebuild or look at a w series box. You'll be much happier with the result.

approx 200 wheel hp is what I'm aiming for and I'm doing everything possible to remove weight would like to be round 950kg with fuel and driver. Car will be used for having fun on the awsome twisty mountain roads we have down here :yes:

I'm fairly sure my mate is using a W series box with 240hp flywheel, so not that far off where you're at. Though I think he's got at least a TRD kit or similar (synchromesh) thru it. The engine's out for rebuild after 10thou K competitive, haven't heard of him having issues with the box.

Dog box is a really maintenance intensive piece of kit. Yeah they can handle some serious hp, but everytime you change gear, whether you're gentle or not, you'll be chipping bits off the dogs. Once the dogs get down so far, it's a replacement job. Sliders and gears... Kaching $$!!

For a dedicated race car chasing a championship, worth it, but be prepared to pay for it. For a club car, unless the Toyota's your fun car whilst the Lambo's in for a service, I'd forget about it and go with a decent synchromesh kit.

I've read about someone adapting a 6 speed IS200 box to a 4age to make use of its close ratios. They work well with a revver, 2-5 just about match the TRD T50 gearset or something along those lines.
