Good day Fellow Rollaclubbers....

 

just wanted to take your opinion and suggestion in upgrading or modifying my current STOCK air Intake system.. ( its a round type with a filter inside.)

 

can i just remove the Filter inside the Round type Stock air intake and Plug a Racing Exhaust Filter on the Mouth of it? will this work or just cause trouble on the engine...

 

doing such upgrade will give me more power??

 

pls. do guide and enlighten me on this matter....

what you suggest will "work", but don't bother, not worth the effort. no more power. will sound better maybe.

 

if everything else is stock then nothing wrong with the stock airbox.

 

if you get a webber or some other uprated carby, the stock airbox may not fit, so most guys get one of those shiny airfilter boxes that sit ontop of the carby, to replace the stock one.

 

the filter itself isnt really an upgrade (though it sounds heaps better), more of a necessety with the new carby. and it looks alot neater in the engine bay.

The idea of an induction system is to decrease air flow resistance into the cylinder as the piston pulls in on its induction stroke. This resistance can be minimised firstly with the air box/filter, then by port and cam work and finally by exaust work, allowing air to exist faster and easier.

 

That, which you do to one will only complement the other....

ive got a sandwitch filter on my weber. is there more induction in the ramflow filters? are they illegal? (due to soaked in oil?)

I've seen a pod filter fitted onto a standard 4k carb, just by removing the original black filter box thingy and drilling a hole in the top of the plastic part of the pod filter and then placing it on top of the carb so that bolt thing with the wing nut on it goes through the hole in the pod filter and then you just screw the wing nut back on, it maybe have been clamped around the bottom of the pod though I can't remember. But like Dave said it's probably not worth the effort.

We have to run a stock carby on the race car.

We gained 3hp on the dyno by pissing the K&N filter off, and installing a stock one with the trumpet cut off and the hole sealed, and the half of the filter box that faces the strut cut open.

Yeah I know I don't make sense and looks shit house, But works.

On my thing i'm the standard filter and stock airbox but the top cover is modified to act a bit like a big "washer" and just clamps down on the filter. Sounds nice but the seat of my pants dyno says not much improvement
