Matt-e30 Posted January 28, 2011 Report Posted January 28, 2011 Hey guys, just returned home in a tow truck tonight and thought what other mishaps have we all had that we can laugh about etc: my night started tonight with a nice drive round town in my ke11, night was going well then was time to return home stopped at a red light the spring on my carb snapped just as the light went green and started revving the guts out of the 3k powerhouse... Must admit was a decent 3k launch but something to laugh about now I guess... Any one got a carb spring for a 3k in NSW lol jokes Quote
altezzaclub Posted January 29, 2011 Report Posted January 29, 2011 C'mon, you should have driven it home on the ignition key!! Did it wear through or rust off? Mark 1 Minis had the battery in the boot. They had a loop in the steel brakeline under the rear subframe and the battery cable went through that loop. One night flying up a motorway offramp the cable shorted through the line and turned all the brake fluid to vapour! Luckily no-one was at the traffic island at the top of the ramp... I drove that home without brakes, easy enough with no traffic and a bit of thinking ahead. Quote
cinky Posted January 29, 2011 Report Posted January 29, 2011 my 77 mini had warped brake drums allround so brakes would grab hard then slightlt let go so i just to drove around with the hand brake. was so much fun on round abouts, back wheels smokin from being locked and front smokin from spinnin gotta lok the looks from by standers Quote
Jono.C Posted January 29, 2011 Report Posted January 29, 2011 (edited) i loved when i got my ke70. some el tardo got a commodore bosskit and filed the teeth so it'd fit the corolla. on the way home from buying it i decided to see how it'd go when i chucked it in. planted it and reefed the wheel only to find the wheel turned and the car didnt!! couple of clutch dumps and hand brake got me round the corner but far out that was scary! Matt-e30 Posted January 29, 2011 Author Report Posted January 29, 2011 I was tempted to pull it back with a shoe lace but neither me or passenger were wearing shoes with laces... $2 later she's now fixed (pick n payless entry fee) and a $90 tow which surprisingly wasn't too bad for 1 in the morning... SLW42 Posted January 29, 2011 Report Posted January 29, 2011 (edited) I had a slanty front ke70 with a 5k, 4speed and stick welded lokka(previous owner two times before me) for heaps of max doeys in the gravel. I was on the way to my works christmas party last year an was about half an hour out from home and the diff decided to blow up, and lock the rear left wheel and pulled me to the lefthand side of the road, Half an hour of sitting on the side of the road under my car with it running in gear and watching my tailshaft spin around in circle's with the car not moving at all, a bearded fella happy as larry in a hilux pull up and says 'oi you alright mate' i said nah the diff blew up, so he gets under the car and says start it up and put it in gear, So i start the car, select 4th and let the clutch go, crunch, crunch free rev and the speedo going so much faster than a 4speed ke70 should go :P , he's like alright it's deffinately f@$ked, how far away from home are you?????? About 20 mins half an hour away. Alright i'll tow ya home, (thinking to myself fark yes champion) we had snatch strapped the keto to his hilux, half an hour and i'm home, and i said Let me buy ya a carton to say cheers!!! So my cars home he was a carton of XXXX golds happier (it's not coz i was poor it's what he wanted) And the odd exhaust snapping and dropping at the collecters of the extractors at 2 in the morning :bash: Edited January 29, 2011 by SLW42 Quote
LXY-642 Posted January 29, 2011 Report Posted January 29, 2011 sitting at macca's drivethrough on my lunch break in my old ke36. just before the guy slid open the window for me to pay the car cut out, wouldn't start back up again either. guy opened the window, that'll $11.95. uh yeah my car just broke down in your drivethrough. his response, so do you still want your meal? me, well the car breaking down doesn't feed me, so ofcourse i do. then he came out and helped push it into a car park, rang the boss and he said find a way back to work within 10min or your fired, bloody prick. turned out the bolt on the dizzy had come loose, so the dizzy had been vibrating around. timing was way outta wack, caused the car to run lean and have no fuel into the carby. and to think i drove this car to qld and back over 1 weekend without any tools lol. and then drove it halfway to qlkd to swap for the ef, where it then drove the rest of the way no drama's, yet it couldn't even get through a macca's drivethrough lol.
