Honda V-Tech Into Ke25

Featured Replies

Very cool idea, but there are so many reasons why it hasnt been done.

there are now many engines that make use of similar technology,

beams being one, rwd format, and looks to be a relatively easy conversion from what ive read.

sr16vvl, sr20vvl, these are only available in fwd, but they do spin the correct way. (sr16 has 200hp na approx)

V-TEC YO!!!!!

(that is all)

The typical early honda motor spins anti-clockwise.

More then likely you'll have to make custom bellhousing cause all bar two, the F20 and F22 from the S2000, are east-west only designed motors.

Pre-2000 Honda engines are one of the oddballs in the engine world, spinning CCW when looking at the front, CW when looking at the rear. Since 2000, the K-series engine started going into several Honda models, which rotates clockwise like most engines.

So judging by that the R-series spins that "correct" way. As well as the L-series.

The next thing of interest would be if you got told to use the factory computer. Which would make it rather hard since the ecu would control not just the motor but the transmission and pretty well everything else you can stick a finger in.

The one thing that i'm not overly fussed on with the vetc is that the max torque band is up high about 2 grand off where max hp is made.

Don't know how true it is but the motors demand a good quality oil that must be changed by the due date or you risk damage to the camshaft controller. But like i said i don't if its true or not.

How about a mazda 4-banger ?

Should not have to say much more then this:

VTEC is quite possibly the greatest achievement in allowing an engine to have more power, while retaining great drivability in lower revs.

most engine manufacturers are using the idea of variable valve timing these days, but my understanding is most (if not all) do not incorporate higher lift.

in MY oppinion haters of vtec are those that don't understand how good it is....

a honda engine would be brilliant idea in RWD, but might be a challenge finding a RWD gearbox to suit. I'm sure you could machine up a chunky adaptor for it though, been done before on other engine/gearbox combos.

Because everyone wants power at 7000rpm that lasts for around 1500rpm.

No, people hate it because most people with V-TACK think they are unbeatable.

Challenging?

Best to use S2000 running gear.

Buy the whole lot.

I would agree the F20 and gear would be a good starting point, and highest reving NA 2L motor

VTEC kick is a nifty piece of gear and although does not come on strong, good poke and handy on fuel,

slap a turbo and a VTEC controller and watch the wonders come together

Exactly.

yeah there is that...

i always wondered about the posibility of flipping over a differential to combat that issue. would be a pretty custom job thats for sure. but you would be getting a custom diff probably anyway..

unsure what effect this would have on oil delivery to the gears, probably not ideal. Or if diff gears are designed to be driven one direction, and if you drive them in "reverse" for an extended period of time is that bad for it?

who knows...lots of issues to think about here.

Umm no, the leading edge of the diff will be running backwards, I thought engineers knew this sort of stuff.

just found a few pictures showing that somehow people are overcoming the rotation problems in their conversions.

1st question - Why a Honda engine??

2nd question - How much money, time, patience do you have?

3rd question - What car would you put it into, if you had the chance

4th question - WHY A HONDA MOTOR

and now a did you know - did you know that all honda motors spin counter clockwise Except the s2000 engine

hahaha i just love the V-tech system and the f@$king note that comes out of them is emmence :D but i wasnt aware they spun counter clockwise :hmm: well I'm away to sell my Evo so i should hav ruffly 20 grand to play with :D it would be goin into a KE 25 that i have on its way here i just wanted something different really lol

i looked into this a few months back with my e70. the cost of doing this is nothing but trouble. an f20c long motor alone would set you back about $12000. then you would need custom bonnet, k frame, some fabrications to firewall, tunnel and some other quite expensive things if you don't have the know how like me.

hmmm mayb its abit too much for my first conversion haha :D but il hav a good look into it anyways any other suggestions on something different?? (i think I'm over turbos) lol

really even if i buy a rolled s2000 or something and bearing in mind i would be doing all the work ?

You are looking to put this in a 40 year old car, with leaf springs and standard front discs that are a hand span across.

Front strut, front brakes will need upgrade. Brake master wil need upgrade. Hydraulic clutch install required.

Engine cross member to be modified, gearbox crossmember to be modified. It wouldn't surprise me if you run into trouble with shifter mounting problems due to the cross beam nearby.

Custom tailshaft. Diff upgrade with brakes to suit. Throw some time and money at the rear end (yes, leafs will cope with it, but it'll need some work...).

Rewiring, fuel system, cooling system, engine management.

And you'll still have a 40 year old car, that's going to twist and flex.

$20K wont cut it.

ahhh magic ahh well hopes and dreams  could still do it and just do a little bit at a time :)

You can buy an s2000 for <25k, you may as well have the complete car to drive.

I wonder how much the 6 speed from the s2000 would cost.

The next question i'd be asking is that since the gearbox from the k20a powered integra can bolted to the f22 powered accord, what about the s2000's gearbox. Be an interesting thought since the f20c (from the s2000) is more or less the same block as the other F-series motors.
