Twincam16seca Posted March 21, 2011 Report Posted March 21, 2011 Hi all Does anyone know if the AE86 hubs are the same as the xt130 hubs, being the off set if that is possible and the bearing size? I have got the corona front end with ae71 springs with 1 coil cut to get the right ride height but its too soft (wollowy). Also the brake pedal is still soft at first but if I give it another quick pump it pumps up nice and hard, i have blead them twice, so if it was like that all the time i would be happy with them. I thought the MC might not be big enough??? As for the suspension how can i stiffen it? or if i bought AJPS coil overs could i use the xt130 twin piston brakes? All help is appreciated. Quote

Don't know about wheel sizes, etc but the bearings are different. Also the brake pedal is still soft at first but if I give it another quick pump it pumps up nice and hard, i have blead them twice, so if it was like that all the time i would be happy with them. Ella Posted March 21, 2011 Report Posted March 21, 2011 thos spongey feeling is common when you go to twin pots on the front, suddenly your trying to move more mass with less push force although a full bleed to remove all the air is definately needed, when you think youve got all the air out theres always more in there haha. Question, do your bleed nipples face down or up in your installation? Quote
Twincam16seca Posted March 22, 2011 Author Report Posted March 22, 2011 I'm pretty sure they are horizontal and face toward the strut/engine. I did give them a hone and put a seal kit through the calipers before i put them on the car, and the original brakes felt heaps tighter with no sponge, i'm putting it down to the calipers being bigger etc, i also have the feeling i should sell this set up and go with something else like the rx7 calipers and coil overs, any suggestions? i don't want to spend heaps though... :hmm: Quote
Ella Posted March 22, 2011 Report Posted March 22, 2011 do us a favor take a photo of your brake setup for me. Quote
Twincam16seca Posted March 23, 2011 Author Report Posted March 23, 2011 (edited) okay heres the pics of my brake set up, this is the left hand side. thanks Edited March 23, 2011 by Twincam16seca Quote
towe001 Posted March 23, 2011 Report Posted March 23, 2011 First thing i noticed was the metal pipe from the strut down to the caliper. Shouldn't it be a rubber hose ? Never known a metal pipe to be used in that spot. Quote

ke70dave Posted March 23, 2011 Report Posted March 23, 2011 yeah my s15 has that metal brake line like that too. weird hey. how big are the 2 pot pistons compared to the original items? if you meausure the diameter of your standard piston, and measure the diameter (s) of the new 2 pot item. you can work out how much extra fluid is required to get the same movement, take into account that the 2 pistons only need to move half as far as the single pot original (since there are 2 of them pushing towards each other, i think this is correct...) in my limited experience with using over sized calipers on standard master cylinder (s13 calipers on ke master), you do get a different pedal feel, the pedal is still hard to push but you need to push the brake pedal further to get the car to stop, but it worked great like that for 3yrs...so you should still get something that is useful from your setup. spongy feel to me is definitely an air in the system problem. though the fact that it comes good after a few pumps...also to me sounds like a mastercylinder problem. might be worth taking the MC out and getting it checked over. also re: suspension. sounds like your shocks are stuffed. get some new ones if they are the standards, cut springs + standard (potentially stuffed) shocks = mushy mushy. 19914afc Posted March 24, 2011 Report Posted March 24, 2011 MY pedal got spongey when I put in MA61 supra brakes, its just like when putting 4 piston calipers on you need a different master cylinder (R32 ABS for 4 piston but unsure about these) Quote
Twincam16seca Posted March 24, 2011 Author Report Posted March 24, 2011 ke70dave, i tested the both shocks before i put them in and they both pushed in and pulled out slow so thought they would be fine. I personally think the suspension just needs a custom spring made to make it stiffer. i need custom hoses made up anyway cos the ones on there now are perishing, i guess ABS brakes would be able to make them up for me? any other suggestions? i need the hard lines too as the doosh bag that replaced the original hoses strangled the dam thing when they did it back up. :bash: so out came the vice grips to undo, and mangle the shite out of them. Any idea of what master cylinder to use? i have been told Pajero MC, but i was thinking xt130 corona cos thats the brakes I'm using, as i was going to convert to corona diff with disc brake, even though its a borg warner still.
