hey guys,

 

i have a rt142 corona with a blown up 22re, its my track car and I'm looking at putting a sr20det into it!

i was wondering if anyone could help out in whether the engine mounts on the crossmember with bolt up to the sr20det or will i have to make new mounts

Are you really set on the sr20det? Because 1ggte is the tried and tested option for a reason.

back in the early 80s, when toyota was desiging the corona. they thought...hmmm we had better give nissan a call and find out what popular turbo engine they will start making, you never know someone in 2011 might want to put a late 80's nissan engine in this corona. so we had better make it bolt in!

in case you have missed my sarcasm, custom engine and gearbox mounts will be required.

 

in fact pretty much everything to do with waht you are talking about (SR into your corona) will have to be custom made.

 

a short list-

 

-engine mounts

-gearbox mounts

-wiring

-intercooler piping

-tailshaft

-bigger radiator (and associated water stuffs)

-probably a bigger diff (shortened and modified to fit your car)

-custom brake lines for formentioned diff

-bigger fuel system (most likely a surge tank setup, pending the design of the 22re fuel system)

 

starting to get the idea?

gathered that this stuff would be needed to do but i just thought id ask as some engines bolt into other cars straight.

 

i thought about 1ggte but i love the sound and performance of the sr20 and I'm a corona man, and love my corona, so thought as well i should put the two together :)

and i don't want the weight of a 6cyl, I'm building a using it as a drift car so don't want it to drive live a boat

Be realistic though, the aftermarket for 1G is well... virtually non-existent (I'm sure Andrew will chime in here one way or the other). SR20s? Well, there's a forged rebuild kit selling for less than $1500 (CP pistons, spool rods, MLS HG, bearings). (Buying) Power in numbers.

 

Yea the noise is so-so (it was, bizarrely, one of Nissan's design goals for the SR) but I'm happy enough with mine. It can't compete with the noise of most of the Skylines at track days though.

I like the roar of my SR, its not too droning and very smooth,

 

I like the popping noise when slowing down in a high gear haha

If your planning on using it as a drift car you will probably have a few more problems to think about other than getting the motor in there and running. Namely diff, suspension, brakes and cooling.

Thats true, 1g parts are hard to come by these days. I'm luck my corona has a 1jz, so I don't have that problem.

yes i hav already done suspension, thinkin hilux or r31 diff so i am not stupid, I'm just asking there questions before i start doin it so i know what there is to do and not to do if you get what i mean

Just to be clear, just because you can get it to bolt up does not mean is sitting properly.

 

To do the conversion properly you need to be able to sit the motor precisely where you want it to sit, anything less is going to be crap.

 

Dotn get me wrong, I am definately not trying to dicourage you from doing this, its just so much easier to do it properly the first time. :y:
