G'day All , I'm slowly collecting the Bits I need to build a Supercharged 4K , I've slightly Opened up the Head Chambers & I'm hoping that with a Cometic Head Gasket http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/COMETIC-GASKET-C4105-043-TOYOTA-3K-4K-84MM-/270696007119?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item3f06bd45cf that my Compression ratio will be around 8.5:1 , This means on 98 octane I should be Able to Run 5 psi giving a Compression Ratio of 11.5:1 +/- 0.2:1 ,

 

In saying this has anyone ever run a Water/Metanol Injection system to Run More Boost safely without Meltdown , I', thinking of buying this Kit http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Water-Methanol-Injection-System-TURBO-SUPERCHARGER-HOLDEN-FORD-TOYOTA-NISSAN-BMW-/270895618082?pt=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&hash=item3f12a31822 & then Boosting it 10-12 psi giving roughly 14.3-15.4:1 Comp .

 

I will be running a AMR500 supercharger which have a Maximum RPM of 18000 RPM so i'll overdrive the charger to meet my Boost requirements & make pullies ,

 

Has anyone thought of or does run Water/Methanol Injection & what results have been had either good or bad , i'd like to know ,

 

Another Question , Has anyone ever Fitted Larger Valves to there 4K head & if so do you know what was a Close fit , Obviously some mods will be needed ,

I've always planned on doing it one day but never got around to it.

Water/Meth doesn't make more power in itself, but allows you to make more power by adding boost and/or timing by cooling the charge..... which you probably already know.

 

Can't hurt at all, however I'd probably be more inclined to put together my own kit than buying one of those pricey ebay kits. You can get away with using a much smaller water pump (like a window washer pump) if you do some tricky boost equalization on the bottle. Think I mentioned something about that in the "how to setup your fuel system" tech article.wink.gif

Maximum continuous speed on an AMR500 is 16000 rpm. I think at 18000 rpm you would be pushing it.

Getting the AMR to push 5psi should be easy enough but getting past 10psi would put a bit of strain on the charger.

Remember that the AMR500 was intended for engines under 1000cc.

When I went back to NZ in '86 I worked for a guy who prepared rally/race motors until I got a real job. (Jamie Aislabie in Rotorua) In those days turbos were pretty new on the scene, & he had a Honda Prelude with a home-built turbo setup and water injection.

 

When the turbo came on boost it started a windscreen washer pump that fired water into the inlet through a syringe. He said it stopped detonation and allowed higher boost, simple and effective. I ran a water injection system on my Skyline a decade later just to help it burn cleaner and last longer, a needle into the vac advance port that sucked water in from a second washer bottle..

nah you squirt it in pre turbo inlet.

 

we did a setup like this on my mates rx7.

 

i was always very skepticle of the water destroying the turbin blades, apparently not a serious issue if you get a super fine spray nozzle.

 

however we didnt have an electric pump, we used boost pressure to pressurise the water resevoir to get flow (with a 1 way valve), and had an electric solenoid just before the nozzle to control the spray (via a spare output on the megasquirt, which was mapped to rpm and throttle position i belive...).

 

And we mounted the nozzle just after the pod filter inside the intake track.

 

worked well thats for sure. we don't have any quantitative data but it sure allowed a bit more of an agressive tune.

 

scrapped it all though and went E85, its the good stuff.

 

water injection system is still there though, might resurect it one day....

How is it going to draw water in under positive pressure? Did you use a Venturi setup?

 

Altezza might have been using it on an NA skyline???

 

Click on the above link Tom, just noticed my reply was in response to a question from you years ago about "pilot line" to the float bowl on a carby. Same deal with pressuring the water/meth tank. Equal pressure on both sides of the pump means you can use virtually any pump.cool.gif

Sorry, you're right Taz, the Skyine was NA, so it sucked the water in. The washer pump could pump under pressure, but I think Dave's setup is more elegant. That way the pressur varies with boost and you don't need an extra pump.
