G'day guys, I'm a bit stuck, Wondering if anyone knows this.

So i have a D dish 5k block and will be running the head off that. Now the cam chosen for my engine can only be done in solid lifter.

Now, I have chev/ datsun combo that was going to be used for the turbo build which i scrapped but due to head heights etc..

So, Does anyone know what pushrod and lifter combination can be used to run the 5kc D dish head on the D dish block?

Cheers, Jono

I'm pretty sure I remember a thread about it, but that was years ago. I think it was camerondownunder that said to use 4k rocker gear, pushrods and 3F landcruiser lifters. But it was a lloooonnnggggggg time ago I may be wrong.

We did this a few months back, myself and nerfbat. don't have time to explain atm, but there are a few old threads about the same conversion.

Then again, people will tell you different things and combinations too.

Datsun A12 rods and gutted hydro lifters running 4k rocker gear

And using the landcruiser 3f solid lifters and stock 4k rods and rocker gear

Also chev solids and different pushrod combinations.

We ended up bendind an A12 rod, had lots of problems finding a combination etc.

I can go into detail when i have time if you are keen for some of our experiences. Also, have a squiz at this.

here is what cameron said to Stu when he was looking into it, on his thread :

"Also datto A12 push rods and chev/holden solid lifters will only work with a 3K head on it.

But in my 5K I have 4K push rods and 3F lifters works a treat. BUT THEY MUST BE dished piston 4K push rods the other rods are to long.

Or you can make dirty lifters use 5K hydro lifters pull guts out and pop the top of it back in and run stock like 3K push rods. There in Felix 5K KE15 worked for years for him not a problem.

Cheers

Cameron"

Go the hydro. Soooooooo much easier. Run a hydro in my 5k, Wade 169,and would pull over 7500rpm. If a hydro grind wont suit your needs, you must be building a serious 5k.

I used the find a cam thing through crow, and he sent me back a cam and the specs, I enquired whether it was available in hydro and he reakoned it was too big or revved too high for hydraulic lifters

Shop around. Wade have a hell of a lot of grinds for hydros. Or ask the crow guy for a hydro grind.

The ramp rates are the biggest problem with hydros. Also, what cam are you starting off with? I reckon the base diameter on hydros is much bigger than solids.

But as already said: run a hydro setup.

I would prefer hydro as its just easier. I might send the info from what crow sent me to wade and see if they have a cam similar for hydro applications
