For some reason or another, I never made a comment on this pic... hacksaw, crazy man, you are! :D I LOVE IT! haha. The volume from the fronts alone would be insane! :paw:

Has anyone else done any work on door pods? I'll be working on some for the Camry VERY soon, so I'll add to the tutorial shortly :) AND It'll be done without fibreglass :D

Thanks for the awesome writeup mate.

Just sent a link to a friend of mine as he wants to do some fiberglassing to modify his front spoiler (R31 skyline).

Makes this kind of work a lot easier with good photos alongside the info.

Think I may attempt some speaker pods and a center console using this method.

Cheers.

Pete.

Apart from T shirt type material, womens stockings are a good option to use over the mould prior to fiberglassing as they stretch well, just don't pull so tight that you get a run in them.

nice work guys and great thread, i used to make these yrs ago, just a few tips that i have learned over the many pods i have made in the past, instead of using dowel, i found that various sized screws work well, iused the clamp my mdf speaker rings together and pre drill 4 holes so they would be the same for pass and drivers sides, then used the screws to attach the rings to the base (like the dowel or timber in the 1st post), that way when you trial fit them you can adjust the angles easily by adjusting the screws, then after the resin has set you can simply remove them, the polyester and resin will hold pretty well,

the higher the polyester content of the fabric the stronger your pod will be, fabric shops will sell you some real cheap, i used to use fleecy trackpant material, fluffy side to the inside, coat it up well with resin, no matt, you can stand on them after it has set and it shouldn't break, then just a light sand and some bog work to smooth it out,

if your covering them in vinyl, lay the vinyl out in the sun for 20mins before, it will stretch easier, a heat gun will also help,

that's about all i can think of at themoment, its been yrs since i have made any, lol, I'm a little rusty!!

this is the lat set i made for a tx3 laser i painted, the fosqate splits came with 2 tweeters each side, the owner wanted 1 up high and the other down in the door, they are painted same color as the car, they were a bit tricky they needed a recess where the window winder rotated, came out really nice and being a rotor fan i totally loved the crossover unit!!
