Engine Removal Pics

Good ol' ROL-110 was awesome enough to sell me a short motor fairly cheaply. So when I pick that up tomorrow, I'll fix a few gaskets and then pop the engine back in.

So here's a few engine removal pics after 30 mins work.

*Thats Mr. Faulksy in those pics giving me a hand too*

Well, I got the 4K in, bolted everything back together and it wont start.

Don't ask me if I've checked the order of the leads and made sure Piston 1 is at TDC, because I've checked all that.

AND

To top it all off its pissing oil out of an unknown location.

Who wants a freakin' panel van?

Success!

After lining up the oil pump (so the dizzy was in the right spot), it started with a little bit of coaxing, I timed the engine and now I just have to fix the oil leak (which is coming from the oil filter bracker).

Once all that is done, I'll save a bit of money and put the 3K head on the 4K block and maybe regrind the cam and get a 32/36 weber and extractors for it, then a sports exhaust.

Test drove it for the first time today after fixing the oil leak,

First thing to say - The lifters are very very noisy, even after a adjusting the rockers.

Other than that, it hauls along pretty well, much better than the 3K did.

Now I have a couple of questions.

Are the 3K lifters the same as the 4K ones?

Or Should I just convert to solid lifters?

Hmmm, interesting.

So noisy tap-tap-tap sounds would just mean i'll have to adjust the valve clearance still or could it just be that the lifters are so worn that its not pumping oil up to the top of the engine?

Can they be removed without having to take the head off as well?

Stewart Ford once told me that mine were still noisy because they were worn and had wear marks in them and no matter what I did I wouldn't be able to shut them up. (He said it far better than that, but something along those lines).

I'd just leave it, unless it's TOO much to bear, at which point I would do what I said earlier in the thread and upgrade to an SR20DET :faq:

OR

Buy a loud stereo, that fixes stuff....

OR

Buy a supercharger and bolt it on, the engine wont last long enough to bother you with the noise, then you can source a 5K and throw that in :D

No job = no money = just want a reliable daily driver.

Not interested in doing up the panel van too much as its just my get around car for my band equipment (when i happen to get into another band)
