SLOTH Snr
To run it in Craig has been told to drive between 2000 and 5000 rpm for the first six hundred kms. today he was complaining that he can't get out of third gear most of the time and is still waiting to use fifth. The guy who put it all together for us took it for a run yesterday to bed the pistons in. He hit 7000 in fourth and scared the absolute shit out of me. :D I'm use to having a big car around me at those sort of speeds. Carbies are leaking a little air so we will get them sorted as we run it in but all things look pretty positive. We will get it dyno'd in five or six weeks andthat will tell the tale. It is so ;) cool
Raven
What'd the total engine package come to in the end, if you don't mind me asking? (POST NUMBER FIVE ZERO ZERO! YAY!) Edited March 20, 2006 by AE35
SLOTH Snr
All up I don't know yet. I haven't got the final bill, but heres an approximate We bought a KE30 with the 7k in it. We took the 7K, 5speed box, extractors, 2in sports exhaust. That was $800 The extras needed,(electric fuel pump, flow regulator, inlet maifold ramflo air filters, fuel line and fittings) they were $500 The engineers, things like honing the block, clean and machining head for larger valve, port matching) That was $1400 The rest of the parts, (cam, valve springs, solid lifters, anything and everything required) including assembly ready to drop in and turn key. Quoted $1000 Expect $1200-$1300 So I guess all up the project doesn't leave change from $4000. Hopefully anyone trying this can cut cost by doing more themself. I'm quite happy to share any information I have
Raven
Thanks for sharing that with us Mr Sloth Snr :D Definately an eye-opener for those wanting to attempt this type of conversion. Would love to see how it goes, but alas, i don't live in Vic ;) Maybe once the engine is run in, you can type up your driving experience starting from acceleration and all the way thru to 5th gear, flat chat :D

Boost+k
MEAN!!!!!! i want one :) a couple of questions tho... what sump are you using? did you modify the crossmember to clear it? what clutch are you using? is it holding up? did u use 5k solid lifters or? and last but not least what happened to the injection inlet manifold? :lolcry:
SLOTH Snr
We're using a 3k sump. chev solid lifters, theres many a thread about the fact the stand GM solids fit perfectly in a K motor The E.F.I. was already gone when we bought it I'm using a Lynx manifold(direct from Lynx saved heaps) and I need to make extensions for the carbies as the 7K doesn't seem to lean over as far as the 4K's do. Corolla_Kid
Is it using the same engine mounts as a 4k,5k,3k?
Boost+k
hmmm i was told the 3k sump would get hit by the rods because of the longer stroke... so thats good news it fits :) did you block up the old oil feed that runs to the hydro lifters? SLOTH Snr
Yeah just standard engine mounts. The sump was already on the motor when we bought it. The mechanic did the lifter conversion. I will try and get specifics and post it with the rest of the info when I get back from holidays p.s A word of thanks to the guys at South East Carbies They were flat out but when I explained the situation and that I was about to go on hols they squeezed me in He is staying back to finish them. I'm more used to being told Stiff luck. Edited March 22, 2006 by SLOTH Snr

SLOTH Snr
Supercharged has always been on the drawing board. We'll see how it goes for the next twelve months(can't go to quick).
