balaiz Posted January 27, 2014 Report Posted January 27, 2014 I'm gonna reuse this gasket do i need to put anything on this to make it seal or i can just put it on dry like this? also any carb help or advice is appreciated :D Quote
altezzaclub Posted January 27, 2014 Report Posted January 27, 2014 I've re-used them dry, or often put a smear of grease on each side. Too complicated to put a sealant on, you don't want silicon sticking in those holes. Quote
ke70dave Posted January 27, 2014 Report Posted January 27, 2014 You want to make sure both surfaces are perfectly flat though. ie get a razor blade and spend some time on both surfaces. Quote
carbonboy Posted January 27, 2014 Report Posted January 27, 2014 Too complicated to put a sealant on, you don't want silicon sticking in those holes. I'll vouch for this, tried it once, silicone has a knack for finding the exact hole to get stuck in to give you grief! Quote
balaiz Posted January 28, 2014 Author Report Posted January 28, 2014 didnt plan on using silicone but will try the grease thing thanks. when i opened it up a few days ago the gasoline in the bowl had orange crud in it could it be gas or rust from the tank? Quote
parrot Posted January 28, 2014 Report Posted January 28, 2014 Old deteriorated petrol most likely. Go very light on the grease. Quote
balaiz Posted January 28, 2014 Author Report Posted January 28, 2014 yea i left the fuel there around fall. do i need to flush it out? thanks Quote
altezzaclub Posted January 29, 2014 Report Posted January 29, 2014 Can you dilute it well with fresh fuel? The best part of the petrol does evaporate over 6months and the heavier fraction left behind does not fire as well. Quote
1969 SPRINTER Posted January 29, 2014 Report Posted January 29, 2014 Always a good idea for good fuel when doing engine work. ;) Quote
balaiz Posted January 29, 2014 Author Report Posted January 29, 2014 did put good fuel in it since i got it 91 octane. highest possible octane here in canada lol. @altezza dude dillute the whole tank or carb itself? Quote
CREEDY Posted January 30, 2014 Report Posted January 30, 2014 clean the carb bowl with brake cleaner and fill the bowl up with that when reassembling. best change the fuel filters while you're at it Quote
