Hi all,

I'm Stage Commander at Wilmot (behind Ulverstone), for Targa.

I am struggling for numbers of reliable officials to do Time Card Recording, Line-up, Road Closure etc. I'm starting to get worried that we won't have enough officials in time :P

The stage is Saturday 29th April, need to be there about 10am. Its easy to find, and We should be done by about 3.30-4pm. I can supply maps/directions for those unsure of location.

PM or SMS/call me on 0438 614 495 if you are even mildly keen.

my dads gonna be an official at the targa this year, he drives the "course cars" that screams around before the competitors to look for hazards and remove them, the cool thing is, he is allowed to take the cars home and we go for drives, last time it was a $120,000 BMW and before that it was a HRT coloured V8 commo, what are they using this year in a matter of interest? do you know?

Not sure...

I was offered a drive of one of the lesser course cars (002, 003a/b etc), but I needed to be 25 for the insurance... Now I'm 25, I can't do it coz of uni!!! :P

Always the way.

Fayt, who's your daddy??

my old man's name is Michael Elliott, he races Sports Sedans here at baskerville and symmons

i think they might be using pov rental cars this year :P

I know a few of the guys who run course cars... But not Michael.

It'll probably be renters this year, as sometimes its a bit expensive for car companies to provide a heap of cars to be thrashed about for a week.

Day 4 is Saturday, APril 29th.

I am leaving here early that morning 0530, travelling up thru the central plateau and Great Lake regions to Devonport, then thru to Wilmot. Damn fine drive.

Road closes at 1130 and re-open at 1630 (tho it may be earlier if thigs go well on previous stages).

Travelling straight back to Hobart after the stage, possibly the same route as travelled in the morning. (Might stop at the Great Lake pub for a meal and a Beer??)

It'll be along day, but a good chance for a nice drive, and some up-close sampling of some pretty sweet "automotive pornography"!!

If you can volunteer DO IT. Was a volunteer for the week in 2003 (deputy commander lunch stops) and loved every minute of it. Would do it again at the drop of a hat but can not get out of work. Targa wont move the event to fit in with the VIC school holidays :lmao:

Good mates with the area south commander Paul Darko (went for a ride in one of the Commodores with him, that was scary) if you need help finding officials.

i was talking to Paul Darko 2 days ago, my dad gave the targa people my mobile number instead of his, and I keep getting calls from all the targa hierachy people :lmao:

my dads course car is a nissan x-trail, pretty poor really......

Update:

James... You were probably the last rollaclub member to see the van in its former glory...

My Targa stage ended up being a disaster!! We had plenty of officials in the end, but Wilmot stage ended up getting downgraded to touring (no competition)....

One reason being that we were mere MINUTES from sending in the first 'fast' course car (Evo IV Lancer 'Zero Tango', at racing speed), when some inbred f@$kwit cruied up to us in a falcon ON A CLOSED TARGA STAGE IN THE WRONG DIRECTION!!! :P

This caused serious delays, and forced the stage to be locked down. by the time it was re-secured and ready for competition, Command Centre said we had lost too much time to run the stage, and advised me to downgrade it...

This was due to be the last time commanding Wilmot stage, and I wanted it to run smoothly. Adding insult to injury, we hit a deer on the way up in the morning, and totalled the panel-van!! (see 'game-over' thread) :)

What a c**t of a weekend!! :)
