Sick of having my car smell like a wet dog from my leaking sunroof combined with the massive lack of headroom I decided a while back to ditch my rare factory electric sunroof and I finally found a way to do it, heres some pictures:

sunroof2.jpg

What I started with

sunroof1.jpg

chopping an appropriate size out

sunroof3.jpg

Stripping my current sun-roof

sunroof4.jpg

Chopping the around the old one

sunroof5.jpg

Complete assembly out

sunroof6.jpg

Fitting the replacement pannel on top to mark an outline and measure it

New section glued in, its a work in progress and I know this is the "wrong way" but screw it I think I will get it to be ok in the end,

next step is sealing it up and fiberglassing it to fill that cavity

doing some porting on the intake of my FE head:

Its working out nicely

That is coming along really nicely. What's the story with the blocked up sunroof? Is it finished? Good luck

Matt.

I need to get back to it, right now having access to a garage with my car is a bit of an issue. Heres the plan anyhow:

- sand the center section back

- seal it up

- fiberglass it

- seal it again

- bog it up

- undercoat

I spent a whole day doing porting on just the exhaust side of my FE head, its hard work and I sure hope I did it right.

Nice work on the parts. Can you give us more details on exactly how you cleaned your combustion chamber up in the cylinder head? Did you also polish it?

And with the exhaust ports above they look like a matt finish on the pictures. Are they polished or actually matt finish? As you probably know a polished smooth surface is better in the exhaust.

And can we get more info on this motor build with an FE head?

ok Cameron what I did is use the smallest burr in the photos to take an edge off on the sides of the combustion chamber, for the chanber surface finish I lightly went over it with a very thin grinding stone, it took literally about 30 seconds per chamber. I am just cleaning it up a bit but not polishing as I know it doesnt help power and while it will help the carbon buildup a bit the water injection will have the biggest effect in that area.

The contour of the exhaust ports are purely from the carbide burrs, yes its relatively smooth and thats because I move around a fair bit when grinding and blend in what I can evenly. I will use that home-made tool on the far right picture to do the finishing touches when I am all done.

As for the rest of the information its all up to what you want to know so please ask away, here is my current plan of parts listed below, I have everything expect the head studs, and pistons.

* 4age 20V crank- balanced + crack tested

* 20V block + oil pump + belt tensioner + bottom cam belt gear drive

* timing belt- ??? no idea but will find out!

* spool con-rods

* 4agze pistons, possibly with slighly modified flycuts.

* 7afe head

* custom manifold

* custom ae101 20V throttles

* custom trumpets/airbox

* custom headers

* TRD 4age 16V valve springs

* T3 adjustable cam gear from a 4AGE 16V

* Hyundai plug on coils with built in ignitors (if they fit)

* R31 Skyline airflow meter

I plan to have the following:

* a custom weld and grind job done on my standard cams. I am thinking of around a 270 degree duration intake and 265 to 260 exhuast.

* Around 11:1 compression

* modified original valves

* Wolf V4 ECU

* 9000 RPM redline

any more questions?

its going to be a interesting engine i'm looking forword to it going on a dyno and getting some power results

  • Author

I am waiting for it to all come together also but I must admit I am very nervous about the results

orsume work.

Have you got it flow tested?

  • Author

thanks, I havent had it tested yet, I am looking to make my own flowbench to do the job

something I should of posted a while ago....

this is how I cleaned up some wheels I bought a while back from a wrecker, they are German made BBS wheels and are quite light. They were covered in dirt and grime and also were painted in a silver which I didnt like much.

Most of the paint taken off, cleaned up

After the profesional polishing of the lip, ready for tyre fitment.

Right now I am suing these on the rear of my car but I don't have a good photo.

small update:

I managed to get a rare gear reduction starter motor which I fitted. I made two new cables off my bypass relay .

geared-starter.jpg

I took it apart and gave it a service and a good clean, but all in all it was pretty much like new and came up great.

geared-starter2.jpg

In place with my new wiring connected. I thought I would try a nylon wrap thats difficult to work with but looks nice and holds things together. If it works out I may use it elsewhere in the future.

FEleads.jpg

I found out Camry V6 leads fit pretty nice, they don't have the square outline of the original but it lets me use something more common.

FEdummyfit3.jpg

did another dummy fit of all parts, I modified the middle cover to suit the water pump and the 20V lower cover
